Problem with reboots when EXPO is enabled

Hello!

I have a recurring problem that I can't seem to solve on my own and hope I can get some help here.

I am experiencing problems with reboots when EXPO is enabled.

If the PC has been turned off, it will start as it should.

The problem only applies to reboots (installing updates is a nightmare).

I have had the system for almost a year, everything works except that it is not possible to reboot.
At reboot it gets stuck on the yellow LED which indicates that RAM could not be detected or failed. Left the system on for about an hour, no change.

Ran memtest with zero issues.

I flashed the latest BIOS 7D67v1E9(Beta version) yesterday but that did not solve my problem.
PC Specs:
CPU: 7800X3D
MB: PRO X670-P WIFI
MEM: Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Vengeance RGB AMD EXPO (CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K)
GPU: RTX 3080
NVMe: 2x Samsung 970 EVO

Just curious. Did you managed to fix this? Im having the same issue. My RAM and CPU are the same as yours, only difference is that my mobo is x670E Tomahawk.

Memory Contex Restore and Power Down must be enabled if you do this

I was successful doing this, plus changing CPU NB/SoC Voltage to 1.2. Reboots are now working again, but I still cannot get my computer to wake up after sleep. Are there any other changes I need to do???? I am running x670E Tomahawk with Ryzen 7700X.

Nothing that comes to mind except turn of Windows Fast start

I really hope MSI fix this issue. Wonder if its an issue with x670E Tomahawk or other motherboards too.

My setup is 7800X3D, BIOS 7E12v1F, Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 AMD EXPO - CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K

Hello there. Yes it happens on different motherboards models and other brands as well. Question if you disable EXPO and just use the ram at default 4800 can you restart your computer ?

If yes then maybe it is worth to try to do a manual ram overclock instead of just using the EXPO option.
My PC is also affected by this restart problem and I have been observing this issue for over a year now, all forums and places on the internet and this is the only fix I have saw that can have a 50/50 success rate outside of starting to change components, ram kit, CPU, mainboard.

Some users managed to fix the restart issue like this doing a complete a to z manual ram overclock, both links are the same fix only difference is the ram kits used so they had different values to copy down and use for their own settings:

So manual OC of your own ram kit just to the same values that your own expo profile sets but doing this without actually activating the profile.
CPU NB/SoC Voltage: maybe 1.2500 V - (this is only one you play around with with 250 up or down, 1.1750 or 1.2000 or 1.2250 or 1.2750 max 1.3000 ideal the lower the better but 1.2500 is a good middle start)
The rest you will copy from your own EXPO kit: all the timings, sub-timings, all the voltages: DRAM Voltage, DRAM VDDQ, DRAM VPP, CPU VDDIO. just like your own ram kit sets with the expo profile.

PS:
*Always use F10 key to save bios settings that way it always registers the save.
*Change values in bios by using NumPad's +/- or PageUp/PageDown if you want to adjust cell menu values.
*If you ever screw it up (but I really doubt it) and pc won't post then just reset bios to default (short the clear CMOS jumper or CMOS battery removal method) then you start again from beginning.

System is restarting with zero issues if i turn off EXPO.

Also tried copying my EXPO settings again but this time setting CPU NB/SoC Voltage: 1.2500 V and so far im able to restart! I think my EXPO profile is set to 1.3000. I will play around with the voltage if it breaks again.

Nice, glad it helped and hope it stays fixed for good.

Yeah the default 1.300 is to ensure it will work with even the most lazy chips out there but if you can get lower and be rock solid then better for your CPU. You already shaved off 500 V from the default so its good, observe stability on a longer term before going even lower will be my advice.

Hello guys, I did what "fredrik8801" did.

Thank you! This solved my problem, with yellow led after restarting and no boot from restart.
Shutdown/ power-on was ok from the begging.
Note for beginners like me, after you set override for CPU you have to type the number manually there isn't going to be an option to select from, also for the others, just type the numbers by hand.

Bonjour pour infos j'ai un problème similaire avec une b650 Tomahawk avec le bios V1.K.
Si je désactive expo aucun problème lors des reboots.
Le problème est venu avec les maj bios car sur les anciens aucun problème.

Hello for info I have a similar problem with a b650 Tomahawk with bios V1.K.
If I disable expo no problem on reboots.
The problem came with the updated bios because on the old ones no problem.

For anyone who is still having the same problem: setting CPU NB/SoC Voltage to 1.2 in BIOS solved it for me.

Procedure:
1. updated BIOS & left everything on default - rebooting worked
2. re-enabled EXPO and set CPU NB/SoC Voltage to 1.2 in "override mode" i.e. manually override what EXPO suggested for CPU NB/SoC Voltage
3. ran memtest86 for 8 hours to make sure RAM works nicely
4. re-booting now works like it should. no issues.

What's really weird: this build (MSI project zero B650M, G.Skill Flare X5 32GB Kit DDR5-6000 CL30, 7800X3D, ATX 3.1 PSU) ran perfectly for almost a year - 11 months - with the BIOS it came with out-of-the-box and EXPO before the re-booting issue occurred. I have no explanation whatsoever what changed or why this suddenly started to happen.

I personally think it is the UEFI setting after a driver/security update. Manual settings (not everything) and not to low voltage works for me. For the UEFI setting you can use MSI center to get the SDK up-to-date with Windows.

I have a B650i gigabyte motherboard with a 7800X3D, and I've tried several ram kits, all corsair tho. Funny thing is the one I have is on their QVL. I haven't tried the manual timing and CPU SoC voltage thing but I'll give it a try and update you guys here. Wish me luck :)

I cannot confirm this fixed the issue yet but I had not seen the "enter bios options and gigabyte splash screen" for over a year and a half with the dGPU connected to the monitor and after I changed this value to 1.2V now it is suddenly showing it which is sooooooo crazy. I'll continue to monitor the sleep and restart behavior.

EDIT: didn't work U_U. I don't know how the system managed to show me the bios splash screen, but it is not showing up again and PC now didn't wake up from sleep.
