Hi,

I have recently bought MSI Geforce4 440MX-T and downloaded the latest driver from MSI site. XP keeps hanging and freezing from time to time specially when I use 3D software or play 3d Games like Ghost Recon which actually comes with the card.

Please help me finalize this problem.

Thank you

Mohamed,

It would really be helpful to know the specs on your computer and if you did a clean install of WinXP or an upgrade and if it was an upgrade, form which OS.

Thank you Mr.Deathstalker for your response

I have Intel PIII 1000MHz
395 MB Ram PC133
2-20GB HDD
Gigabyte VIA Chipset
MSI GF4 440MX-t
Creative 128-Digital Sound Card
Asus 12x DVD
LiteOn 16X CDR-RW
Motorola 56K Int.Modem

I also Have WIN98SE installed, the problem is that WIN98 sometimes restarts while applying new settings to my VGA card in the game or in windows. Though I wasn't facing any of these problems with my old ELSA card.

Mohamed,

But you problem is both in Win98 and WinXP? I would check to see if you have an IRQ Conflict. Check to see if the GeForce 4 is sharing IRQs with anything else.

That would be the first place since it is causing problems on more than one OS.

If you want to rule out the card, try it in another computer to see if you can duplicate the problem.

Hello,

since the same problem happended to me with a GF4MX440T + XP, I am pretty sure as in my case it is a psu problem, in my case 300W is not enough if I have my USB ADSL modem and my Sidewinder wheel connected (except if I play NFS5 Porsche).
Check it out

Regards

:D

PS : read the summary of my previous problems, I have posted it on that forum under the title "Problem with MSI GeForce 4 MX 440 : the solution (but not complete)"

Hi everybody

Thank you all for trying to help me find out and solve the problem.

Sorry, I was alittle bit busy the last few days until I could read your replies.

I have overcome the problem, it was the latest driver I downloaded from MSI web site ?( . When I removed it and installed the one which came with the card, everything went smooth and no more freezing or hanging up.

As I expected that newer versions always give more stability and better performance, but now I have to think twice before installing newer versions of drivers.

Thank you

Mohamed,

Glad to hear you are set. If you do get brave, give a shot with WinXP the Detonator 4 40.41 Drivers from nVidia. They should improve your performance.
