QPI frequency?

In my BIOS I did some experimenting with the QPI frequency in that I moved it from 4.6 (lowest) to 6.4 (highest). The BIOS as well as the system accepted the change, but in doing so I now get the dreaded double boot. I tried the change in order to see some speed improvement in overall speed, but I didn't. Does anyone know why increasing the QPI frequency would not translate to faster overall speed? As a general rule I thought that the higher the frequency the faster it is for moving the 1s and 0s around. That general rule does not seem to apply to OPI frequency? Since there was not a noticeable improvement in speed as well as to get rid of the double boot I changed the BIOS setting back to 4.6. I can't prove it with numbers (yet), but the system seems faster on the lower 4.6 setting?

What's flawed is what you say. You recognize that most computer buyers don't know what overclocking is much less how to build one, but then you ask me if I've known someone that has bought an XE and doesn't know what to do with it. Contradiction and YES anyone who has ever bought a computer from Dell! Have you ever seen a BIOS from a Dell? In case not I'll tell you they are stripped down to nothing! Regardless I'll answer your question for a 2nd time! 9/10 of the people that will buy an XE will leave it stock and never open the case! An exact case and point is the guy that runs IT where I work. He has a Master's degree in computer engineering. He builds by hand most of the work stations for the company. He has heard of overclocking, but has never tried it even with his personal PCs. He fears warranty violation and doesn't believe there is that much to gain against what could fail. I'd say he represents 95% of computer professionals. I'll say again what we talk about here is a minute section of the market called enthusiasts. We are less than 1% of the entire computer market. Not counting game consoles. The game console world has a much higher percentage of enthusiasts.

I fail to see the contradiction in my statement.  Recognising that others are not educated/knowledgeable about what we know isn't really contradicting myself.

I have NEVER known anyone to buy an XE CPU and not know how to use it.  If you can't understand that, it's simply too bad.

It will be interesting to see how David J's 920 stacks up to the shiny new D0 stepped 975 whenever they release it. :lol_anim:

From what I've seen on XS, Ron, it will be one for the record books. ;-))

I'm sure there is a lot of which you fail to see. Case and point this very discussion! Some people just can't see past the nose on their face. Obviously you are one of them. I suggest you stay in your little world where everyone knows how to use an XE CPU. The other 99.9% of the world is simply not ready for you.

So you go from a rather interesting debate to attempting to insult me?  Very mature, sir, bravo!  One cookie for you, :censored: .

Edit:  My mind is not at rest.  If you disagree with my opinion, that's perfectly acceptable.  Whether you think you got yourself the performance of a 965 or not makes no difference to me, the aesthetic of it all is that you still have a 920, that's been overclocked a few mere hundred MHz.  There was no need to be a childish b!tch about it.

I feel better now.  If you wish to continue this discussion (and your name calling, if you really float that way) you're quite welcome to do it in PM.

My apologies for become temperamental, Mike, but there's a limit to my temper.

I tired and was ready to move on Mike, but the truly ignorant asked for it. Of course your mind is not at rest. You have to first have a mind for it to be at rest! You clearly do not! With you this was never a discussion, or a debate. You turned it into trying to convince yourself that you have something intelligent to contribute. You don't! Don't count on any PMs from me as you are not worth a moment more of my time. As Ron White said, "you can't fix stupid"!

I'm ignorant for going out of my own way and providing useful contribution to your thread?

In extension to Jack's post:

QPI is fast enough at 4.8 GT/s.  I'm assuming the 6.4 GT/s exists for server based operations where more bandwidth is required.  As servers have to not just connect and communicate with the system itself, but with other processors (not always, though).

HyperThreading will give you the biggest performance boost, excluding overclocking.  So ensure you have it enabled.

I have not tried to contribute anything beyond that.  When I said it was flawed logic - that's because I believe it is.  It appears you've taken the composure that I'm trying to force my opinion upon you, which I most certainly am not.

It was an interesting debate to me, I'm sorry you did not see it that way.

I knew I seen this somewhere!  Ron, the 975 will be out around Computex time and cost $999:  http://www.tweaktown.com/news/12096/intel_gives_core_i7_975_a_price/index.html

Useful contribution? That's a matter of opinion! You may see yourself as a self described "forum God", but I bet no one else would! As the starter of this thread I don't care what you think "flawed logic" is. Your "forum God" opinion is of 100% no use to me and I doubt anybody else.

Forum god is a rank.  I did not put it there.  Bas made the ranks, not me.  Again with the insulting...  I apologised, if you're not going to accept then that's the end of this ordeal.  And you've just proven yourself an hypocrite.  My up-most congratulations.

My mistake with the "forum God. I did not know it was a rank, however it's consistant with how you view your own opinion. I'm more than willing to stop responding if you don't say anything that I'm forced to respond to. I'm somewhat surprised the moderators haven't shut this down anyway.

Isn't normally anyone on at 2-6AM.  (It used to be me ;D)  Yes, I'm a former moderator.  As hard as you may find that to believe.  But yes, I'm surprised too.  Why did this thread go unattended? :lol_anim:
