Hello,

I have a problem with sudden hard power-offs on my Raider A18 HX A7VIG after a recent firmware update.

**System information:**
- Model: Raider A18 HX A7VIG
- BIOS version: E182KAMS.10D (2026-06-26)
- Windows 11 (build 26200)
- Graphics mode: MSHybrid

**Problem description:**
After receiving the BIOS/EC update (came through Windows Update), the laptop started performing hard power-offs (complete loss of power).

Event Viewer shows:
- Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power)
- BugcheckCode = 0
- Event ID 6008 (previous shutdown was unexpected)

This is a pure power cut, not a BSOD.

**Important details:**
- The issue happens **only when running on AC power**.
- On battery the laptop works normally.
- The shutdown can be triggered by:
- Entering the Windows PIN
- Launching Opera browser (especially with hardware acceleration enabled on the discrete GPU)
- Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome launch without problems.
- Adobe Premiere Pro works fine under load.
- EC Reset was already performed.

**Current workaround that helps:**
- MSI Center set to Balanced mode
- Opera forced to Integrated Graphics via NVIDIA Control Panel + hardware acceleration disabled in Opera settings

With these settings the system is currently stable, but I am concerned about long-term reliability, especially when working with professional software (Adobe).

Has anyone else with the A7VIG (or similar A18 HX models) experienced hard power-offs only on AC after the E182KAMS.10D firmware?

Is MSI aware of this behavior? Is a newer BIOS/EC planned?

Thank you.

long-press the power button (about 30 seconds) to do the EC reset first

Thank you for the suggestion.

I already performed the EC reset (power button held for ~30 seconds with AC unplugged) right after the problem started. The hard power-offs continued after that.

Current situation:
- BIOS: E182KAMS.10D
- Issue only happens on AC power
- BugcheckCode = 0 (Kernel-Power 41)
- Triggered mainly by launching Opera (with HW acceleration on discrete GPU)
- Works fine on battery
- Edge/Chrome and Adobe Premiere work normally
- Currently stable with: MSI Center Balanced + Opera forced to Integrated GPU + Maximum processor state 99%

Any other ideas?

May I confirm a few details?
1. Does the system power off at the Windows PIN screen every time? Does it happen after a cold boot, a system restart, or waking from sleep/hibernate?
2. Since the issue appears to occur only with Opera, have you tried updating Opera to the latest version?
3. Was the system set to MSHybrid mode whenever the issue occurred? Have you tried switching to Discrete Graphics Mode to see whether the issue still occurs?

The Event IDs provided only indicate that the system experienced an unexpected shutdown and do not identify the root cause.
You should check whether any other warnings or errors were recorded shortly before these events occurred.

Thank you for the questions. Here are the details:

Important: The problem started immediately after a firmware/BIOS update that was installed through Windows Update (version E182KAMS.10D).

1. The hard power-off happened both at the Windows PIN screen and when launching Opera.
It occurred after a cold boot / normal startup (not from sleep or hibernate).

2. Opera is updated to the latest version. The issue was specifically linked to hardware acceleration on the discrete GPU. When I force Opera to the integrated GPU (via NVIDIA Control Panel) and keep Balanced mode, the shutdowns stop.

3. Yes, the system was in MSHybrid mode when the shutdowns occurred.
I also tested Discrete Graphics Mode — the laptop still powered off when launching Opera on AC power.

Additional important points:
- The problem happens only on AC power. On battery the system is completely stable.
- Edge and Chrome launch without any issues.
- Adobe Premiere works fine under load.
- Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power Event 41 with BugcheckCode = 0 (pure power loss, no BSOD).
- EC Reset was already performed right after the issue started.
- BIOS version: E182KAMS.10D (received via Windows Update).

Currently the system is stable with these settings:
- MSI Center → Balanced
- Opera forced to Integrated Graphics
- Maximum processor state set to 99%

Is there anything else I should check or provide?

Update with additional information:

The problem started immediately after installing BIOS E182KAMS.10D, which was delivered via Windows Update.

According to the official MSI BIOS Release Notes for this model (MS-182K):

New BIOS: E182KAMS.10D
Release Date: 2026.7.17
Description: Fixed the malfunction of AMD overclocking function.

No other changes are listed. There is no mention of power management, EC adjustments, or stability fixes related to power delivery.

Current symptoms:
- Hard power-offs (Kernel-Power Event 41, BugcheckCode = 0) occur only on AC power
- Triggers: launching Opera (especially with hardware acceleration on discrete GPU), and sometimes under load in games (World of Tanks)
- Completely stable on battery
- Adobe Premiere works fine even under render load
- System is stable when Opera is forced to Integrated GPU + MSI Center Balanced + Maximum processor state 99%
- External 4K monitor is connected via HDMI

EC Reset was performed multiple times (correct procedure: AC unplugged + power button held 30+ seconds).

Is it possible that the EC power protection thresholds became too aggressive in version 10D?
Any planned BIOS/EC update that addresses power stability on AC?

I downloaded BIOS E182KAMS.10D from the MSI website and manually updated it, There was no automatic shutdown. I'm unsure if the Windows Update update affected the BIOS file. You could try visiting the MSI website, downloading BIOS E182KAMS.10D, and manually updating it (refer to the .pdf file in the BIOS download folder).

Has anyone else tried manually downloading E182KAMS.10D from the official MSI website and flashing it (instead of the version that came through Windows Update)?

Did it actually stop the random shutdowns for you?

Please share your results if you tried this method.
