Hi all,

Just bought my new rig. It is described in my signature. Unfortunately I found two issues with my current setup. The second issue is in a separate post.

What I found out is that my Razer copperhead mouse is not recognized in the P67A-GD65 BIOS. It only (luckily) finds the keyboard. I tried a different plain microsoft mouse and that one is working fine. I tried both 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9B1 versions of the BIOS.

The USB layout of my mouse is as follows according to windows 7 device manager:

USB Composite Device
- Razer Copperhead USB Mouse
  - HID-compliant mouse
- USB Input Device
  - HID Keyboard Device

note: I have no idea why this mouse provides a 'Keyboard'. It is not a real one, maybe it is used for the extra buttons? The bios does mention this keyboard in the USB settings page (so in total it sees 2 keyboards). Maybe it stops enumerating the mouse HID because it already found the (non-working) keyboard HID?

Are more people having this issue? Maybe the BIOS does not like the USB layout of my mouse?

I've issued a ticket to msi. I hope they will address it in the bios. I do not want to give up hopes, this board is just out and requires some time to iron out the startup bugs I guess.

... and perhaps (who knows) the Razer Copperhead firmware adds its share to the problem as well.  But "no more razer copperhead mice" is probably a statement we won't find that easily, which is surprising because every regular mouse seems to work properly on these boards.

Common problem with the GD65. Had some usb problems too. No more MSI for me in the future.
There are more problems with the B2 stepped 6 series chipsets than just a SATA II transistor. If you would look in the updated January 2011 Intel datasheet for the chipset, you would find some USB problems & a few others listed as well. Putting the blame on MSI for something they had no control over, is misplaced. I apologize to the OP for this reply in his thread, but quoted replies like this one from Vicarious are unwelcome here that provide no help or solutions.

I've issued a ticket to msi.
asmadi, I hope your issue with that particular mouse is resolved soon. Be sure to contact the mouse manufacturer about possible firmware updates as Svet suggested too. :-))

On top of that the Razer mouse has been a problem for plenty of people on other MB's not just the P67. As mentioned you need to contact MS to see if they might come up with a BIOS fix or or a firmware fix for the mouse itself.

Got a reply from MSI that they do not have the mouse and that I should return the board for repair... As I think this is purely a software issue in the BIOS I'm not planning to do that. For me mouse support in the BIOS is not necessary anyway but I hoped that they would at least look into the matter.

Next I'll see what razer will reply.

Personally, I'd just get rid of the Razer mouse. I had one years ago, and while it was the most expensive mouse I ever bought, it was also the worst one.

To be honest, I'm already on the lookout for a new mouse. Problem is, I need a symmetrical one as I'm left handed and the copperhead was one of the few gaming mice that has this feature.

if you find one, let me know please. I'm also a leftie and hate my copperhead. Also my motherboard didnt recognize this mouse as well. :(

Gaming mice are all about bling, they really don't offer any thing extra, apart from flashy lights, a large price tag, and a heap of trouble. I switched back to using cheap generic mice a while back, this ?6 Genius USB optical mouse I currently use, does the job and it just WORKS. ;)

I just upgraded to the latest official V1.11 BIOS and now the Razer mouse works. So I consider this topic closed.

Hello,

The firmware of your Copperhaed is update ?

Because : I updated the motherboard Bios to v1.11 (1.B) but I can't update the mouse firmware and problems are still here.
I have a Deathadder 1st release 1800dpi - problem at first firmware update ? I can't update and only use the driver running at the time.

Thank you.

I updated the firmware of my motherboard to version 1.11. There was no recent firmware update for my mouse. As your model (deathadder) is different than mines you might want to open your own ticket at razer and/or MSI.
