I have an MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 2QE. After I updated my BIOS, Realtek HD Audio Manager disappeared and despite reinstalling the driver many times and trying various online fixes, it simply refuses to return.

I am at a loss regarding this issue as my laptop's audio is now very low. The "Loudness Equalisation" setting in Realtek HD Audio Manager was very important as my laptop's volume seemed to double if not triple when I turned it on! Unfortunately, there is no way I can access that setting to fix the audio volume now that Realtek HD Audio Manager has vanished.

I've also attached the System Information file below to hopefully help you with diagnosing the issue.

Please help and thanks in advance.

Hi muhammedansari10,

MSI no longer supports the Realtek HD Audio Manager. When you updated to a newer BIOS version, you lost that support. MSI intends for users to install A-Volute's Nahimic software and use it instead. Furthermore, MSI does a terrible job of documenting for the public the changes it makes with each BIOS revision. So it's not surprising that MSI advises users to NOT install a BIOS or firmware update unless instructed to do so by MSI Support. If your GS60 2QE was operating properly, you should have left well enough alone and not touched the BIOS.

Note: Personally, I do not recommend Nahimic because it distorts the audio and has compatibility problems with some programs. That's why I haven't updated the BIOS of my GT80 2QE. If I did, I would be in the same situation you are now. I'm still using the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

At this point, the only thing you can do is contact MSI Support and try to get a copy of the older BIOS for your notebook and reinstall it. This is a volunteer user-to-user forum here and MSI does not participate here. So you'll need to contact MSI Support directly. (Click on the "Service" link a the top of this webpage, then use the "Ask a Question" link near the bottom of the Service webpage.)

Kind regards, David

According to the attached information your GS60 2QE has a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ 4th Generation Haswell CPU, with the latest available BIOS, which is E16H5IMS.111.

I only found a previous version of the BIOS available at the MSI website:

http://download.msi.com/bos_exe/nb/E16H5IMS.110.zip

Do you remember what was the version of the BIOS before the update?

Let's hope your Realtek HD Audio Manager works again with the 110 version.

Thanks for the replies. I had not realised that MSI have discontinued support for the Realtek HD Audio manager until I read David's post.

Decided to give Nahimic another go and after some tinkering with the settings, my audio sounds fairly decent, so I guess I'll stick with Nahimic for the time being.

As far as the BIOS update is concerned, although it was released quite a while back, I only applied it recently as my laptop had a long-term issue where it wouldn't shut down normally and I would have to force it to shut down by keeping the power button pressed for a while (resorted to updating the BIOS after various attempts to fix the issue by following common online tips failed). Thankfully the BIOS update rectified that issue, therefore, I don't have any plans of reverting to the old BIOS.

Once again, thanks for all the help and do let me know if there are any new developments or discoveries with regard to this issue.
