So I have got my new PC together and all running and packing away all the left over parts into the PSU box for when I need them in the future.
I cut up the MSI motherboard box so I can keep the part with the serial number etc on it for reference and sit down to register the board.
It's all going well, I type the serial number, download a copy of my sales invoice and fill out the rest of the form ... please enter your CHK number which is on the motherboard next to the serial number ... WTF
OK that won't be hard will it, I look at the supplied image and it shows the sticker between a couple of screw heads, so it must be between one of the motherboard mounts then, right. No of course not, the image on the MSI website appears to be from a graphics card instead, it is labelled as 'where to find it' but in truth it is just a picture of a sticker.
So I have this -
And I'm hunting for the damn sticker, can't find it, they wouldn't be stupid enough to put the sticker on the back of the board would they???
So off to a search engine to ask where MSI puts the serial numbers on their motherboards, and I get this 'The serial number for an MSI motherboard is usually on a sticker or directly on the board itself. It's often near the center or around the edges of the board', which is mostly useless as it basically means it can be anywhere on the board.
Luckily, alongside the words there is also a little image -
OK so it's on the side of the 24-pin power connector, I can sort of get there with a camera and take a bunch of images where I cannot see in the hope I can catch the CHK number.
So my review of the MSI Warranty Registration process is ... could do much better.
You are an IT company, you have people running your website that appear to know what they are doing. When I fill in a serial number and you are aware that they have a motherboard, and you have a link that says it'll show you where the CHK number is, show them a picture of where it is rather than a picture of a sticker (I know its a sticker, it's the damn sticker I am trying to find in the first place), or just include the words 'on the main power plug;.
