I'm getting random reboots, sometimes every other day, sometimes several times a day; doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I'm working on.

I upgraded power supply thinking that might be it (430 to 650 watts), but still happening.

Support suggests upgrading bios from 7.1 to 7.3 but I'm wondering if I should check other stuff 1st?

Also concerned about losing my data because I have Raid 1 and allegedly upgrading the bios will cause me to reconfigure raid and possibly lose all data.
(I have a full backup but would rather not go that route if I don't have to).

X58 Pro
Core i7 920
Corsair xms3 DDR3 3 x 2GB  (slots 1, 3, 5)
EVGA GeForce 9600 GSO 512
2 WD 640GB drives (raid 1)
LG DVD/RW
Sony usb card reader
Antec Earthwatts 650

Windows 7 RC-1 64 bit

(haven't changed any bios/cmos settings, no overclocking)
Successfully ran intel burn test.

Don't want to blame W7 RC, but can't rule it out. Hardware/Driver conflict? The USB card Reader? The timings are fine for running your RAM at 1333, & voltage at 1.6 should have resolved any issue there. Boot order changing in bios depending on USB devices installed or uninstalled at startup/shutdown?

3 more reboots, one yesterday afternoon, another in the middle of the night (sitting idle), and another about 10 minutes ago shortly after a fresh restart.

I unchecked 'automatic restart' but it didn't change anything; I don't get any informational error screen.

the event log just says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." and prior to that are miscellaneous services that stopped working (that vary with each reboot).

Device Manager doesn't indicate any conflicts; all the usb devices/ports appear to work (ext hd detected, can view contents of usb stick from all ports).
Boot order is hard drive/dvd/usb's

cpu temp is 23C, ioh temp is 57C

From looking at some other posts, I decided to change mem ratio from auto to 4, so memory is now at 1066 instead of 1333.
Still have dram voltage in bios set to 1.6 (although it still shows 1.5 everywhere except in the bios), and spread spectrum disabled.

Looked everywhere in bios for XMP to disable that, but I can't find it.

However, my systems has been stable for a couple days now, and I'm hoping the mem ratio did the trick.
If that's what it takes, I can live with 1066.

Good attitude! Having a 'stable' system 'is' the key. In bios 'Cell Menu', you should see 'Extreme Memory Profile' (aka XMP). It probably is disabled by default, but best to check it. After changing the 'Mem. Ratio' to 4, did you also change the 'Uncore Ratio' to 8? That is important. Also, at that speed, you should be able to reduce the 'DRAM V.' back down to 1.5v, which should be the 'Auto' setting. Keep us posted.

I can't remember if I had mentioned this earlier, but the FPS between 1066 & 1333 is pretty small. Sometimes less than 1 FPS.

ok, with mem ratio at 4, I reset dram voltage back to auto and set uncore to 8.

things are looking good; thanks to all for the help!
