Hey guys,

Just caught this new short from MSI dropping some details on their RTX 5050 laptops, and honestly, if these numbers hold up, it might actually be the new budget king for this sub.

They’re claiming the 5050 absolutely crushes both the 3060 and 4060, boasting over 3x performance gains in AAA games. The biggest takeaways from the clip are the jump to GDDR7 memory for lower latency and DLSS 4.5 with 6x multi-frame gen. It sounds like they are heavily targeting the student and casual gamer crowd who want a solid balance of portability and performance without breaking the bank.

What do you all think? Is the 5050 going to be the new default recommendation for budget setups around here, or are we holding out for independent benchmarks before boarding the hype train?

Here’s the clip if you want to see for yourself: https://youtube.com/shorts/nCZAVmgdJ0s

Getting GDDR7 on a 50-class laptop is actually insane if true. The latency drop should be huge for 1080p gaming. If MSI prices this Cyborg right, it's gonna absolutely dominate the budget market for students this fall. RIP 4060 indeed.

3x gains sounds wild, but I bet that’s only with DLSS 4.5 and frame gen cranked to the max. I'm definitely waiting for real-world benchmarks from reviewers before buying the hype. If the raw rasterization performance is actually good, then yeah, it’s a massive win.

honestly, the native fp4 support on the 50 series is lowkey the biggest highlight for local ai. being able to squeeze larger models into usable vram limits without getting bottlenecked on inference speed is massive, especially with tensorrt/nvfp4 optimizations coming along.
