RTX 3080 Suprim X – Black Screen + Fans 100% Under Load (PSU Tried, Still Same)

Hi all,
I’m having an issue with my MSI RTX 3080 Suprim X 10GB and could really use some advice.

System specs:
GPU: MSI RTX 3080 Suprim X 10GB
PSU: Corsair 1000e (previously tested with Corsair 850e, same issue)
  • CPU / Board / RAM: i9 13900KF / DDR 5 32GB
  • OS: Windows 10
The problem:
Whenever the GPU is under heavy load (benchmarks or gaming), my screen suddenly goes black and the GPU fans ramp to 100%. The only way to recover is to power the PC off completely and restart.

Things I’ve tried:
Switched from Corsair 850e PSU to 1000e (same result).
  • GPU is powered by 3 separate 8-pin PCIe cables.
  • Drivers and BIOS are up to date.
  • Tested lowering power limit in MSI Afterburner → if I set power to ~30%, the card doesn’t crash, but obviously performance is unusable
Question:

Has anyone else run into this with the Suprim X? Could this be a faulty card or maybe a VBIOS/power delivery issue? Any fixes or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How old is this GPU? Is it second hand?
And does it worked fine before?

It may need some maintenance, like thermal paste replacement and/or thermal pads replacement.

or maybe a VBIOS

If worked fine before with the same vbios, then no.
Did you flashed any vbios prior this issue? (or ever flashed it's vbios?)
Or if the GPU is 2nd hand, have you checked if the GPU is using correct vbios?

When I have checked any updates using the msi software. It says there no update and Lastest.

I have 2 of these cards and both so the same.

I feel like it’s a power spike.

Is there anyway I can force a new vbios update ?

Hi, I have the same GC (she runs perfectly)
Other question: Does she have enough air for the 3 fans (installed too close to a surface)

We recommend installing the latest version of Windows 11.
Also, check that the cables are securely plugged in.
Then try reinstalling the GPU drivers.
Verify your Windows operating system.
Since Windows 10 support is ending, we recommend upgrading to Windows 11.
Try replacing the cables to see if they are faulty.
