Hi,

I have an RTX 4070 Super MSI Ventus 2x with a Ryzen 7 9700x, 750W psu, and a ASUS B650e-f Gaming motherboard. I do not have any overclock.

Currently, I frequently get black screens after I turn my PC on after waking it from sleep mode. Whenever I am in a game when it gets into sleep mode and wake it up, the black screeen is immediate and often have to force restart the driver (windows+ctrl+shift+b) before it is responsive again. I am using a DP to connect the gpu to my monitor.

How do I solve this issue?
I can easily replicate the issue as it occurs frequently atm. I am running the latest drivers on all devices and this issue has been occuring for the past month and a bit.

If you need more information, please let me know.

You can always set the PC to never sleep or hibernate. I found this online. Not sure if it will work though, you can try it.

How to Fix Screen Not Waking Up After Sleep by Adjusting Intel Management Engine Interface Settings

Open Device Manager
:
  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager from the list.
  1. Navigate to System Devices:
    • In the Device Manager window, scroll down and expand the System Devices category.
  2. Find Intel Management Engine Interface:
    • Look for Intel Management Engine Interface in the list of system devices.
  3. Access Properties:
    • Right-click on Intel Management Engine Interface and select Properties from the context menu.
  4. Adjust Power Management Settings:
    • In the Properties window, go to the Power Management tab.
  5. Modify Power Settings:
    • Check the box labeled Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power if it isn’t already checked. If it's checked and you're experiencing issues, try unchecking it.
  6. Apply Changes:
    • Click OK to apply the changes and close the Properties window.
  7. Restart Your Computer:
    • Restart your computer to ensure the new settings take effect.
By adjusting these settings, you should be able to resolve issues with your screen not waking up properly after the PC goes to sleep.

Thanks for the tip, however, this is a workaround and not a solution. I would like to know if there is something wrong with my GPU or if it's something else, like my SSD

It's a possible solution. I remember my screen would just stay black after hibernating or sleeping. Nothing would turn it back on even pressing spacebar or any keys on the keyboard. It was a sleep setting that needed to be adjusted in my BIOS. If you want to check to see if your GPU is potentially faulty, you can run a few benchmarks and compare it to other models to see. It's very possible it's just a setting in Windows or a device manager setting causing the issue. It could very well be a driver issue. Have you tried rolling back GPU drivers to see if the problem still persists? Are the black screens happening all the time? Or is just hanging immediately after a sleep/wake up?

Hey, so I’ve been testing over the past few days and turned of hibernate and sleep and it still occurs. It occurs after my display turns off. It does not seems to be a display issue however as it works with another device. I also want to note that the issue also occurs during general use of my device.

- I will check my bios settings and test there
- which benchmarks? My display would sometimes turn off when just starting Heaven benchmark. This occured with prior bios
- I will test rolling back bios
- the blackscreens occur rarely, but do occur almost every time after screen wake

If you have the program called 3DMark you can bench it there to see if your results are completely different from other 4070 Super models. I mean I guess it will be somewhat different considering not everyone has the exact same configuration as you. You can also try running a stress test with certain programs like AIDA64, FurMark, Heaven (like you mentioned), MSI Kombuster, etc.

Since you mentioned the display automatically turns off when running the Heaven benchmark. That shouldn't happen. I'd probably roll back GPU drivers first with DDU and see if it still happens. Have you tried a different HDMI or Display Port on the GPU and Monitor? Are you sure the GPU is seated correctly in the PCIE slot? Try reseating. You can also try switching from Display Port to HDMI and see if it happens. You can try turning off the monitor to sleep after x amount of time and see. Sounds like the monitor is going to sleep or the GPU is for some reason cutting in and out. Maybe it's not seated properly.

If all the above fails, then I'd suggest requesting an RMA from the third party retailer or MSI themselves.

Did you fix the issue?
Oh, I saw my previous message got cut short.

I had decided to do a clear reset of my PC and see if that would solve the issue. I haven’t had the time to check if the issue is still there but from the first little of use, it isn’t there anymore. I’ll test it properly again soon :)

Well that's a good sign. Hopefully it's completely fixed. Weird how reinstalling Windows fixes random issues sometimes lol.
