Sounds like an issue with the Intel ICH10 which controls the sata ports?  I might be having the same problem.

I added a WD 160 SATA drive and the bios sees it, but the operating system does not.  I used an external usb to attach the drive and vista sees it.
I was also randomly getting those three long beeps.  I would open the case, detach and reattach cables, check to make sure everything was seated properly....near the end I thought it was that the power cable wasn't in all the way tight (every time I would attach the WD 160 I would pull the power cable first).

In the end I still can't make Vista see the WD 160.  It's not shown under  Administrator Tools>Computer Management>Storgage>Local
I can see the dvd drive but not the hd.  The dvd drive is Sata port 6 and the hard drive is port 5.  I tried different ports with no luck.
I'll prob post this separately, but just wanted to describe it in case any of it sounded familiar.

Ok, so even though I read that it's ok to leave one of the settings (I can't remember which one - I'm at work right now) as ide I went ahead and changed it to AHCI and voila, it could see the hard drive AND the device manager shows the Sata ports 1-6.  NOTE  On the Platinum, there's a JMIC something something sata controller which I was booting off of.  If I had the boot drive connected to the ICH10 and changed the setting it would prob mess up the boot.

Sounds like you need to identify the side sata ports on the eclipse (on the platinum they're controlled by Intel ICH10) on the bios and change the setting.

The manual states that you should use the black SATA ports (1-6) first - they're the ones controlled by Intel's ICH10R. Ports 7-8 (the ones left of the IDE port) are controlled by the first JWB322, ports 9-10 are controlled by the second JWB322.

yeah the sata port on the side that's not working, is control by the ICH10R. I'm currently using the ports 7-8 controlled by JWB322, still can't get the side (1-6) to work might have to rma the board.

Can you check if a HDD is detected in BIOS when you connected to any ports from 1 - 6?

I suggest that you RMA the board in this case.

The chipset for the controller seems faulty.

It depends on your country's reseller and distributor. I really can't give you a gauge timing as it varies from country to country.

It is best that you check with your local reseller which you bought the board from.
