SYSTEM SPECS

CORE I7 920 2.67ghz ( capable of doing 4.0ghz+ stable but right now i'm at stock )
MSI x58 PLATINUM ( was using MSI x58 PLATINUM SLI beta bios 3.1 beta 4 which adds better overclockablity, uncore multi, sli support, etc but right now i'm at stock. )
ADATA 3x2gb DDR3 1333mhz ( capable of doing 1600mhz but it isn't such great ram overclocking wise and is the reason why i was stuck at 4.0ghz but right now it's on stock )
Nvidia 9800 GT 512mb ( not overclocked at all )
Onboard 7.1 ( i do have a sound blaster but i figure i resolve this issuse with fewer components as possible )
4 harddrives

PROBLEM

My gta 4 is performing like CRAP and it should not be, also my san andreas has actually showed reduced performance from my x2 amd system. I've ran super pi and i get accurate results, i've ran everest memory bench and i also get accurate results, now 3dmark 06 i've ran i get good cpu scores but i guess i'm some where around 12k-13k people are saying thats low. Basically i'm getting every known popular bench at the moment and i'm gonna be doing some serious tests at stock. Other games Do show signs of increase but something clearly isn't right if i'm getting the results i am so i would appreciate if this matter could be resolved and i can get the performance that i am suppose to be getting like everybody else's stock performance.

IN DEPTH ANALYSIS

I am running stock right now back to the 1.1 official msi motherboard bios. I have ran gta 4 benchmarks and here are the results.

I have set all the settings to lowest possible and was testing with only differences in resolution.

The last 2 tests i cranked all rendering quality to high except for textures and draw distance, basically the options that show increase of ram usage when you set them higher, i didn't use. I just set all the options to max that didn't use any additional ram.

Finally This last test i ran with my processor overclocked to 3.8ghz for some reason this new bios is very unstable and basically sucks, i can do 4.0ghz and higher on the 3.1 beta 4 bios.

As you can see there is absolutely no difference in fps increase from 1600 x 1200 with a higher overclocked processor, which is absolutely impossible. I have seen people overclock there quad cores just by about 500mhz and yield at least 7-9 fps increase maybe even more.

Everybody claims even hardware review sites

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,670889/Reviews/GTA_4_PC-_Benchmark_with_7_Ati_and_Nvidia_graphics_cards/?page=2

That the gpu has barely much effect on the game, as you can see in that review the 9800 GT and the gtx 280 have about 5-7 fps difference at most between each other. So if i would have not known about these GTA 4 Facts i would say logically the gpu is most likely holding me back.

But this can not be the case when everybody confirms it's majorly the cpu and they are getting better results with lower system specs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKzDYKrUDsA

This guy has a lower clocked processor the same amount of ram but 2 8800 GT's in sli, Sli barely works in this game from what sources are saying. Nether the less he's running at 60-70 fps almost fluid like.

Look i do not know how to explain this at all but people who understand what i'm talking about clearly something IS wrong. I should not be getting such low results like this.

I also still don't know why San andreas is performing Worse, though i am about to go through all the driver sets starting from 180.48 cause i remember installing san andreas around that time.

Assistance would be much appreciated because this is WEIRD, i am also getting all the latest benchmarks like 3dmark and such and i'm going to do nothing but bench as many programs as i can at stock.

Other games did show signs of increase but personally i think that maybe it's something software related though i don't know what it can be, maybe intel INF CHIPSET drivers are real SH!T, but that can't be the case since other i7 users are getting better results. Or maybe my video card is degrading which is really weird but then again i have seen no performance loss graphic's wise as of yet in other games to my best recollection.

Appreciate you taking the time to read this thread, something is wrong, and i have paid money to NOT enjoy a system :( plus another seagate drive just bit the dust.

I have no idea what to say, the bios first of all is gay but the latest 1.1 so i figure i resolve the problems with the official bios. I rather not overclock anything at the moment and just solve the situation on stock, I've tried Windows XP Windows XP 64 VISTA 64, i've got all the latest drivers directx you name it intel INF chipset. I'm not getting it why am i getting such low performance in that game and my scores don't look to impressive either. I've even tried going from Triple Channel to Dual channel, as you can see i've given the most detailed as possible information and ran the tests to prove it so i don't know man SUCKS i cant enjoy my RIG, what happened to the days where you buy hardware and IT WORKS just like as described.

It's the game, it's just a badly optimised port.  Your 3DMark scores are fine, so there's nothing wrong with the machine.

and i stated i'm getting lower performance in san andreas

Yeah its the game, with do you expect with an 9800GT, miracles.
Could try latest drivers,181.22 whql and see if that makes a difference.
Your graphics is holding the rest back and seriously.
My system does ~14 - 15K 3DMark06, specs in sig and thats the card making the most point.
Like Aaron said, your scores are fine and normal for a 9800GT.
So I would invest in a better graphics card.

I agree with every1 else here...My GTA 4 scores are about the same with my e8400 @ 4GHz and a 9800gtx

GTA 4 runs like crap in the 1st place....Try a better vid card...something with 1GB+ of dedicated graphics memory would be best if GTA 4 is your main concern.

But if I was you I would just be happy with 40FPS your getting and basically forget about GTA 4....(it is 1 of the worst GTA games anyhow in my opinion...there was ALOT more stuff to do in previous editions)

I have a GTX 280 coming in 1-2 days

How do you explain this

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=380199&hl=

9800 GTX overclock of 400mhz gives 8 FPS INCREASE

What answer can you give for this, if benchmarks dont mean [***CENSORED***], then i mine as well enjoy 10 fps, since your basiclly saying that i shouldn't stress test my system for accurate performance

Try different games...  Far Cry 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty 5, Devil May Cry 4.  All of which are excellently written games.  If you have problems in any of those, then we can move on from there.  Until you show you have problems in other games, I continue to blame Rockstar's poor porting ability.

Thats the thing other games show signs of performance increase. I was about to install Crysis and do some loops so i'll get back to you on that.

EDIT: but it still doesnt make sense how everybody else is getting more fps then me i even have people that can CONFIRM this with lower specs and same cards.

It's a Rockstar PC port.  What else do you want me to say? :lol_anim:

Yea i understand that, But we ran programs like 3dmark06 05 when we bench our systems normally to be sure we are getting accurate results correct? How is that i am not even CLOSE to the margin of what other users are getting, we can agree something is definitely wrong and it should not be like this. What i have no idea, unless your saying gta IV is Artificial intelligence and it decides who gets good fps or not. If we all have the same calculators we should all be getting the same results correct? That's the logic bad port or not.

agree with this, its a poor game, just take a look here http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=337 it could be your system and you have been very unlucky with your hardware choice but a 9800 gt is nowhwere near the best card to play it on, oh and a little bit of googling also brings this,,,,,, The statement reads in part, "Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available."
so there basically saying wait a year or two then play the game with hardware that can run it

I understand its a bad port, thats not my problem, my problem is i'm not getting same results as other people. if everybody got 10 FPS i'm getting 5 fps i'm not getting 10 fps like everybody else, something is wrong. I have talked to other people and gta iv mostly cpu dependent then it is video card and people with same video cards as me and lower cored dual core processors get better FPS, i don't understand why you don't agree with me that it is infact something wrong with my system.

from all your results you have posted , it would take a computer to work them and sort out whos is whos, please try and make it a little more easier to understand

Well i don't have another x58 motherboard lying around or anything like that, i'm waiting for the gtx 280 coming in 1-2 days but something is wrong i already know it.

Get the GTX 280 set up and running.  Once you have a permanent configuration on your system, we can try to determine if there are any problems.
