I recently bought the X870 Tomahawk to use with a 9800x3d and Corsair 2x16Gb 6000CL30 EXPO (CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30) but I'm having lots of issues...
Frequent crashes (windows sometimes shows "Clock watchdog timeout" BSOD, sometimes no blue screen), my NVME drives sometimes disappear (I need to turn off the power completely, a reboot isn't enough to show it again) making the OS unable to boot and I could not get the Wifi to work.

Today during a reboot there was a warning that the hardware changed so I press F1 to open the bios and the EXPO profile simply disappeared! I exit the bios, boot the system and now it only shows 4Gb of RAM?!? The system is very slow too.
I'm using the latest bios, but it isn't stable, please advise.

That‘s not true. With the last two BIOS versions SATA hot plug is disabled by default and can’t be enabled anymore. That’s why it doesn’t bother me anymore.
Before that I saw all my SATA drives twice in the Windows explorer and that was really annoying.
Your problem is that A1G was not usable at all because it was complete junk. --> HW Monitor abnormal behavior

Switching on and off is an industry standard for years. Just like other functions. It's not that I need it, it's that it's there when I need it and the default setting that can't be changed was Hot Swap On!

How narrow-minded can you be?
And how stubborn can you be to insist on something you absolutely don't need?
I'm quite sure MSI will implement the switch in one of the next firmewares so that it can be turned on and off as wanted.
But for now it's the much better fix to turn hotplug off by default (implemented with 7E51v1A1F and still default in 7E51v1A2).
the default setting that can't be changed was Hot Swap On!
See line above quote. The new default is "OFF".
Others have written several times that what you are saying is wrong.
What exactly is wrong?

You have no arguments, that's the problem.
Hi guys, what's wrong with you, pls calm dawn a bit, and no more arquing for nothing, in vain, better concentrate of what else well done is capable of, that's suppose to help MSI community here, and not to open a Severe dispute here like this thread title.
Coz nothing is in Severe issues with this stunny & gorgeous board, more cpu & mems OC friendly than most fancy over priceliest Hero, I can tell, cause I confront my best one Profile 8000mhz over best one's Asus or Aorus of them 1DPC or 2DPC it doesn't matter, coz I've got already too much hate posting in their OCN threads Asus Rog x870 Here DDR5 OC 24/7 Here MSIx870 Here or Luxx.de DDR5 RAM OC thread Here and guess what, we have a winner, Tommy the Stunny mobo indeed.
I will ask kindly to @Svet btw please open a thread, like this one X870 Carbon Here and I'll be the first one posting the best my researches and stuff, thx in advance.
Pls no ofence here you guys , sorry for the Long story, let's find out the Short version finally ...
Hi guys,
More myth busting.
After Karhu test from New Year 2025 night ... Saga continues ...
Screenshot(428)_copy_1920x1080.png

Double checked stable Profile doesn't hurt ... Y-cruncher FFT/N64/VT3 combo ... done 👍
Screenshot (447).png

And looks who's bring a bit lemon juice ... won't hurt ... BCLK 🎆
Screenshot(448)_copy_1883x1080.png

I didn't even know BCLK is posssible on non-eclk board, but coz I'am running also too much sensitive bandwidth MP700 Pro pcie 5.0 x4 M.2 nvme, didn't tested yet ... till now ... right in this moment ... got better output 12600% coverage in comparison 88000% 252,33 MB/s ... and still ... more to come ... shall see ...Karhu test 12h+ still working in progress ... done.
Screenshot(449)_copy_1920x1080.png

I'am aware a lot stuff open lower through put coz kept all bloatware info sources opened ... but still it's no record I'am looking for, only stable enough for my first time 70k read 69k copy speeds, pretty fair enough for one X 6cores cpu, so happy
🤓
It feels like a lucky lottery ticket in my right hand pocket ... to be validated.
Screenshot(450)_copy_1920x1080.png

Now after second Aida cache run ... all setup done ... just idleing ... it feels like ... casual 🤭

It is wrong for MSI to hide menus for user-decided values. Not only the per-port SATA and M.2 controls, but also for USB ports control, USB charging while off, choosing the timeout for BIOS access prompt (e.g. how many seconds to pause for "Del" during POST to enter Setup, etc., etc. There are a number of things like that which are hidden on the MSI BIOS menus that should not be. ASRock and ASUS provide access to all of these things. I am not sure why MSI has limited user access to these things. Maybe they believe their customers are not smart enough to make their own decisions?

My last board was an asus x570 dark hero and that board just gave me access to everything. Honestly was a wonderful experience using that mobo. I've even used an msi b550i mobo and that bios was also fine. had access to most features. Yet now msi feels the needs to hide basic features from their customers when they're paying 300$ plus for a mobo... especially if ur in like canada where the board is like 420 plus tax lol. Imagine paying like 475$ CAD to have basic features disabled or accessable.. It's pretty laughable.. especially when the x870 toma offers good features.

For anyone having USB dropout issues still:

Try disabling "Allow this device to wake the computer" in device manager for any devices that are having problems. Fixed my keyboard randomly dropping connectivity.

Also, as a few others have stated, it would be nice to be able to disable mainly the SATA function on the board and also individual USB ports. :-)

Has anyone noticed PBO settings resetting to Auto randomly? When re-enabled in bios the previous settings (at least for CO) are still there... This is through the Advanced > AMD OC menu

Deactivating this is also just a workaround. USB still wakes up very, very slowly after power saving mode. You can go and get yourself a cup of coffee. The boot process also takes longer again with 1A2. The initial problems are still not solved, now would be the time for MSI to introduce more immature features and thus bring even more problems into the bios. This approach is simply laughable. Any normal thinking person would first fix all the bugs and then introduce new features, not so with MSI...

He just wants to tell others what they need and what they don't need. That's really bad. I will never understand this blind support of a company.
Computer part manufacturers (all of them) need to stop trying to pretend they know what the people that buy their products "need" and focus on giving customers what they want. What we want is the only thing that should matter to them. Period.

this is so true. these companies are so out of touch with the masses its wild.

I'm not sure but it looks like our board really has serious problems. MSI quietly released the x870e on tomohawk. This is very very strange. Especially if the x870 will no longer be released
This looks like consumer fraud.
@Alan J T Can I ask MSI to comment on this? This looks like a scam, it's the same as releasing Carbon first on x870 and then on x870e. No manufacturer does this. In the segment of boards with a chipset, everything is determined from the very beginning and until the end.

did they just rename the x870 toma to x870e...

No. This is a different board. With a different chipset and a different BIOS. Perhaps our board has a hardware fault or an unsuccessful DIMM track architecture and a decision was made to release a new revision with the E chipset. This is my guess, judging by the complaints on the forum.
In any case, even if it is a new board, it is not good to mislead buyers from the start. I would buy with E chipset because there are more lines.
