I have the MSI Modern 15 A10M. My DL speed wired and wireless is capping at 1.6mbs. My speed test shows 12.8mbs dl/ 2.5mbs up. what would be causing this. All drivers have been updated within the last 4 days.

Are you sure you got control of BITS and BYTES?
When testing your speed with speedtests online, you're measuring BITS per second. When downloading files, your speed is in BYTES per second. As there is 8 bits in a byte - Your download speed "should" equal your speedtest-result /8.
Getting 8mbps on speedtest, would give you 1MB/s download-speed.
With my provider I have 30MBS plan (speed test 34MBS) but when I download I will obtain around 4 (with spikes up to 4.5) stated in the download speed.

Ok, let me put it this way: On my Lenovo Laptop I will get DL speed that reads ~7-12mbs. On my MSI Laptop I can only get ~1.6mbs. Why the difference? This was noted downloading the same program from same host at approximately the same time. In house network congestion was negligible.

Is this when on battery or AC or both?
Have you verified in power settings for your network card if you have power savings on?

Both battery only and plugged in.

I have tried downloading with both Balanced and Performance power settings no change.

The wired ethernet on this MSI is via a USB to Ethernet dongle if that makes any difference. But, it is also having the same results with WiFi as well.

Have you tried a different router at another location?
Are you the one who controls the router in this location, example limited bandwidth for non entered devices?

The router for the time being is in a fixed location. I am in the process of getting different internet (Starlink). I am the only one with control over the router and permissions. I am at a loss as to why I am getting these issues. The only thing that I can find is that older MSI laptops had issues with Killer Drivers and the apps/programs that ran them. But, I dont have any of those programs or drivers.

Well you have an Intel 9560 AC on it, so should be compatible with most routers.
What router model do you have?
What are the settings of your router, 2.4GHz or 5Ghz or both, you got wireless G activated also, that could slow down more recent laptops?
If your laptop was the last connected to the router you may want to go through these steps in the link below, to put your laptop as the first recognized:

Could you find the same problem on other routers?
And how did you test the network speed?
Do 2.4GHz and 5GHz have the same problem?
Make sure the bandwidth setting in the network property is not limited in 20Mb.

I'm going to assume that it is a modem/router issue and i will be replacing not just that but i am also replacing my ISP. I will be switching to starlink as soon as it arrives. already paid for BETA but just waiting on it to ship.

How do you make sure it's related to the router?
Is the network speed normal with other routers?
