Solutions to majority of problems related to Restore/ Recovery / MSI F3 factory Reset

Hi master @Bsl K moving forward a bit I did a win 11 installation without deleting my partitions, now I don't have f3 and all the recovery files are in the old windows folder Could you please guide me a little, I would be infinitely grateful.

Hi BSl K,
I have a GE73 raider RGB 8RE and i have perform the destructive way (download flashdrive from microsoft). Now i don't have any msi original partition in my laptop. I have done all the steps on your post. the msi burn recovery still doesn't work on f3. plz help me. the partition 4 now is recovery partition.
sorry the image is in chinese.

your partition is wrong, 1st partition should be 300MB, then 128MB MSR, then c drive then 900MB winre tool partition, then other partitions and then BIOS_RVY.
you also don't have bios_rvy partition. follow the tutorial.

since you installed win11, it might have replaced the f3 optioned winre.wim from 4rth partition or may have created new winre in bios_rvy and assigned that winre.wim, thats why you lost the f3 recovery option.
since your bios_rvy partition is intact, i guess all your factory backup files are there.

so follow this instruction

Thank you very much for your support. I found these files but they are in the Windows old folder. Can I proceed by following the steps in the link? Or do I have to do another part of the tutorial? Thank you very much.

Which os was your device when you bought it? win 10 or 11.
restoring with f3 should not cause this bluescreen. one thing you can do is to repair the current system.
i mean use that files and try the process again, and if you get into this bluescreen, insert the win 11 usb and try repair this pc option. do not go to install the os, just try repairing it.

you dont have to worry about these files. these files are for creating msi recovery. these files are already in the image inside bios_rvy partition. so dont worry about it. just make sure you dont format the bios_rvy partition.

I really appreciate your help, I have this screen after the blue screens, do you mean I should insert a USB stick with Wind 11 here and repair Windows?

Hey everyone,

apologies for reviving an old topic, but I'm still not sure after reading the whole thread if this will going to work on a fresh windows install or can I do fix somehow my current situation.

I'm returning Titan 18hx to private eBay seller due to too much heat and noise coming out of it and it is unsuitable for my use and I decided to reset the system so the next person could have a “new laptop” experience. However, I couldn't figure out how to remove my native language and some personal settings that were still left even after doing a Windows reset.

At the time, I didn’t know about the MSI F3 factory reset feature. So after reading a bit online, I figured I needed to do a clean install of Windows. I created a bootable Windows install USB using the Media Creation Tool and restarted the laptop to begin the installation.

That’s when more problems started: during the Windows install process, I couldn’t see any partitions at all. I started messing around in the BIOS and — not fully understanding what I was doing — I think I messed up the RAID 0 configuration. I didn’t realize that some BIOS settings aren’t reversible once changed. I also tried installing Intel RST drivers at that point, but nothing changed (and I now believe I installed the wrong drivers — which might actually have been a good thing… we’ll see).

Eventually, I gave up and decided to just leave the laptop as it was. But that didn’t go as planned either. Now, Windows doesn’t boot at all, and the system goes straight into the BIOS. The F3 recovery option is gone — nothing happens when I try to trigger it.

I even tried creating an F3 recovery USB, but it doesn’t load anything either. It just shows a screen saying “Recovery DVD Manager” and stops there. I’m guessing it might require Windows to already be installed — which it isn’t right now. Or it is but it is not bootable ... Right now BIOS is to optimal default settings.

The only bit of progress I’ve made is that after installing the correct Intel RST drivers, I can now finally see the partitions — but they’re all empty. Oddly enough, when I browse the USB for drivers during the install process, I can still see all the Windows files sitting in the BootX partition. But for some reason, that same partition doesn’t show up as a valid install target.

At this point, I’m not sure what's the best I can do next. I don't want to make things worse.

If any of the following are doable I will much appreciate any suggestions.
  • 1. Can I revert everything and just use the recovery partition (if it still exists)?
    2. If not, how can I install a fresh copy of Windows, reinstall all the MSI software, and create my own F3 recovery partition. Or can I have it all together with fresh windows installation.
    3. I’m also okay with doing a fresh Windows install and just leaving the F3 recovery USB for the next person — if that would work without an active Windows installation.
I can provide any photos of current settings if needed.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

@Bsl K hi genius, I have read the whole thread and got a lot of idea of what is going on and what I can do, but I am bit confused, I accidentally deleted those 300 and 900 mb files from my disk while installing windows from usb, but I didn't delete the BIOS_RVY file.. It's still there in my disk and the size of it is almost 16 GB, now I am confused what to do because I am not getting the Restore factory image option in my laptop, and by reading so far I got the idea that you said if you have the BIOS_RVY file then you can make the other partitions manually, but i am not sure if I should do the partition command thing by Shift+f10 while installing windows through a bootable usb or use the file of your msi laptop that you gave in the link as Recovery USB? And also please tell me can I make the partitions manually by that command things and will it give me my f3 option back?
Please I need your help it's urgent 🙏

I am not getting the Restore factory image option in my laptop
coz MSI winre.wim is deleted when clean installing windows by destructive method.
I should do the partition command thing by Shift+f10 while installing windows through a bootable usb
if you are comfortable with cmd, then ofcourse you can do it.
bootable usb or use the file of your msi laptop that you gave in the link as Recovery USB
it will only work itf you have the efi partition 300MB and MSR partition 128 MB, so i dont thing it will work in your case if your current efi partition is 100 MB and msr partition 16MB. i havent tried it, but i havent tried that in that partition, i guess it wont work, but you can try if you want and let us know.
please tell me can I make the partitions manually by that command things and will it give me my f3 option back?
i mean you of course you can do it, and replace the winre.wim file of windows with the link i provided somewhere in the comments. If your bios_rvy partition file is intact then you can extract the winre.wim file from there too.

DM me with snaps of your current partitions if you have any further queries. I will try to assist when i am free.

What is efi partition? Is that the partition that you told to create while installing windows? Because you said to create 300 mb file diskpart.
But how can i make the efi and msr partition manually if it's possible, please because I really want my laptop to get the f3 option back and restore it to factory image 🙏😭
