[SOLVED] GX600 Locking up and freezing

hey guys, I am new to MSI, I admittedly have been more of an ASUS fan of laptops, but received a new GX600 last week, and I have been having issues.

I ordered the laptop with a 1gb ram upgrade, and the seller gave me a shocking 1gb micron technologies stick, that was constantly locking up my system - so i removed it, and the system since has not shown the same symptoms (freezing, becoming unresponsive)

My new issue is a strange one, and I have been looking around the forum, and havn't found anyone else with an issue the same as it.

Every few hours or so, The screen will go black, and the unit will become unresponsive. It needs power to be cut for it to turn off, allowing me to turn it back on. Sometimes the unit will just restart.

This is a fresh install and update of vista, and I had a feeling it was the ram that was the issue. Running Memtest, the screen would just stay on this:

Is anyone else having similar issues with an MSI notebook? the issue is frustrating!

E: I am running the most recent BIOS.

That's known memtest issue, hang at initial screen. Reboot and run it again,{until works(can take several times until works, its random)}

P.S: Enter in BIOS and "LOAD BIOS OPTIMIZED DEFAULT" {"F9"}, to make sure that there is manual OC options activated.

I wouldn't think so, it does it mid-game sometimes.

tried this about seven times, same result, is it an issue with the .ISO, the RAM, or the program itself?

also, does the F9 option only work if overclock settings are set to "Manual"?

The program itself, pre compiled DOS version makes that more often.

What you mean? "F9" is just a shortcut to "LOAD BIOS OPTIMIZED DEFAULT".

UPDATE


The unit just suffered another Black screen, and would only boot into this black screen, until i removed the battery for a few minutes (again :S). any ideas?
 
Go back to reseller to take a look, seems there is hardware failure. {like overheating, memory troubles or something else.}
Tracking down the exact fault will be useless since that's notebook, take it back to reseller to take a look and to fix it.
 
will do, next week, until then, it seems some others have been having similar troubles, but fixing them by using manual clockspeed settings,

I'm willing to give up turbo button features for some clockspeeds other than "auto" because that just.. doesn't seem right.

any way i can find out what the stock clockspeeds are for my GX600?

Which one? You mean CPU or?
 
yeah, just general clock settings in BIOS menu, having trouble trying to find the thread where this ended up helping the issue for another user with the same problem.
 
"LOAD BIOS OPTIMIZED DEFAULT" will restore them to default/stock values.
 
No BSOD, just hanging, which turned out to be heat related, sorry for any rantings stating otherwise  :laugh:
 
have now realised that the secondary freezing issue may have been HEAT related.
I went and purchased a laptop cooler, with remarkable results (see image)
Faith is restored in MSI!



CPU will hover up to 32-33c on idle, about 45c max when gaming. GPU sits around 40c on idle, will go up to about 65c when gaming. Enjoying the thermal properties of the GX600, with an aftermarket cooler.
