Hi all.

Issue: My Killer E5000B NIC only negotiates 100 Mb/s (Fast Ethernet). The controller should support up to 5 Gb/s.

Apologies if this has been asked before; I couldn’t find a thread that matches my issue. I did see a very similar report on the Intel Community for the same network controller (different motherboard), which Intel said was resolved by a BIOS update.
I can’t find an equivalent fix for my board, and I’m already on the latest BIOS.

This is an upgrade from a previous system where the same network ran at 1 Gb/s without issues. On the exact same cable and switch port, my laptops also negotiate 1 Gb/s, so the cabling/switch shouldn’t be the problem. On the MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI, however, the Killer E5000B keeps negotiating only 100 Mb/s (Fast Ethernet).

What I’ve tried so far
  • Updated BIOS to the latest available version
  • Updated the Killer/Intel LAN driver to the latest available version
  • Swapped cables (Cat5e/Cat6) and switch ports
  • Forced Speed & Duplex to 1.0 Gbps Full (falls back to 100 Mb/s)
  • Disabled power-saving/EEE/Green Ethernet features in the NIC’s advanced settings
Ask
  • Is this a known issue on the MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI with the Killer E5000B?
  • Is there a beta BIOS or specific NIC driver/firmware version that fixes the 100 Mb/s negotiation?
  • Any other advanced settings I should try?
Many thanks in advance!

Fix:
CMOS reset

Try resetting the power supply first (ATX reset). Unplug the PC from the mains and hold the power button down for 30s. Then plug the PC to the mains again and start the PC. This procedure will drain the powerlines of the power supply and will fully shut down the NIC in the process.

Let us know whether that makes a difference or not.

@kriesha152302d5 How did you reset CMOS? Seems i have same problem
There is a cmos reset button on the back of the motherboard. Just turn of pc and powersupply. Press that button for 30 seconds or just press multiple times to drain the CMOS. If that doesn't work, just try to press the power button for 30 seconds or press multiple times.
