Hi all

Really strage issue, the USB ports on the motherboard are not working, but the front panel case ones are.
Its only the USB port, the ethernet, HDMI etc all work...
Ive checked device manager, but i cant decipher which are front vs back panel

Im using the MPG Z490 Gaming Plus
Intel i3 10th Gen L1200

The cable on the motherboard is connected fine the USB 3.0 one...
All the drivers for the USB seem to be the latest also

Any ideas?

Thank you in advanced

Which ports exactly are not working? Please describe it using this picture,

Also, what are you trying to connect?

The ports all come from the chipset, so other than the Intel Chipset drivers you can get from the MSI support page, you don't need any drivers.

i have a problem as well with my motherboard ports
im using msi b550 gaming plus motherboard and its usb 2.0 ports do not work or recognise any device that i plug into them
but the usb 3.0 ports work perfectly
what should i do?

What have you tried so far? BIOS update, Clear CMOS?
Tried everything that was mentioned on the website even changed the tower and now not coming on now I’m no expert and not even a novice everything was done correctly put in right places and not working plus the board is not rgb either

If it's solvable by doing something in the device manager (at least for the OP), then it might just be a software/driver issue. Do you have a spare SSD you could try a fresh install of Windows on?

even changed the tower and now not coming on now

What do you mean, not coming on now? Check the front panel cable for the power switch, if it's on the correct pins of the correct JFP1 header. In fact, double-check all the cables, including those for CPU_PWR on the top left of the board, everything has to be latched on properly. Check if there's any reaction from the board, it should show at least some EZ Debug LED (above the 24-pin ATX header) if it's turning on.

Also, you can write everything in one post instead of three, you can edit it to add more information.

I even sent an email to the uk team not got back to me and it’s been a week

Usually, you'd open a ticket with MSI. But it may have been that you only made a simple mistake when "transplanting" the board to a different case. Which wasn't necessary if we assume that this could be a software/driver problem. But we can probably solve that here if it was just some oversight.

power switch is on but no other lights

Then the main thing is to check all the cables, especially the front panel ones on JFP1. On the MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS, they're like this:

You can also put the reset button cable on the power switch pins (to exclude your power switch on the case being a problem) and try to turn it on with the reset button for a test. Or you can short the two power switch pins with a screwdriver, should also give the power-on signal to the PC. And of course check everything relating to the PSU.

Yeah there in like that m8

Can you list your hardware in detail, especially PSU model? Can you try with a different PSU?
I have the ryzen 9 500x, psu is a Corsair 500x, Kingston fury beast 2x 16gb ddr4, ASU’s nividia GeForce rtx, plus a Corsair hub for Corsair lights for Corsair 120 fans with a 4tb crucial p3plus m2 pcie gen4
Obviously with a good cpu fan

"ryzen 9 500x"? Do you mean 5900X, 5950X?
Do you know that this thread is about a MPG Z490 Gaming Plus? The pictures were about that board. So you must have an AMD-based board, which model exactly?

"Corsair 500x"? There is no such model, can you look it properly up from the sticker?

"ASU’s nividia GeForce rtx" Do you mean ASUS NVIDIA? Which exact model? 4060, 4070...?

4tb crucial p3plus

This one i know, but i don't like it, performs worse than several PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs. But on the other hand, it was probably cheap.

Which cooler? "Good" could mean different things to different people.

Mpg b550 gaming plus, corsair rm850, cooler is a air cooler with 4 heat pumps the m2 cost a lot really and yeah sorry 5900x for cpu

Ok, on that board, the JFP1 header has the same pin layout, and it's still pretty much the most bottom-right header on the board. So i don't think you can make too many mistakes there. Now what i would suggest is to try it with the board outside of the case, on a wooden table for example. This excludes a short with the case, which could happen if there's a standoff in the case where there is no mounting hole on the board for example. Short these two pins from JFP1 with a screwdriver to give the power-on signal:

Corsair RM850 is a good PSU model, however, should the board not do anything even outside of the case, it would be good to test with a different PSU (known good, not too old, decent quality).

You mean heatpipes. Still, doesn't tell me too much, could be literally hundreds of different models.

The M.2 SSD cost a lot, yes, but primarily because it has 4TB capacity. Compared to really good drives like the Samsung 990 PRO 4TB, there will still be a considerable price difference, enough to call the P3 / P3 Plus cheap, which is why they are so popular. Their performance isn't too good at all.

Which exact GPU model do you have? You can even leave it out for testing, it doesn't matter if the board doesn't respond at all. At the very least, you want to see one of the EZ Debug LEDs coming on. Without a GPU, it would definitely stop on the VGA LED being on, if not sooner. But first step is to see a sign of life from the board.
