After raising a ticket with MSI, I got a response with a new BIOS to test : E7C37AMS.H82
After installing it, the issue remains, it came back after 5 minutes of listening to Spotify.

The message from support:
"Regarding your concern, in fact, we have tested this card strictly before, but sorry to say that we cannot duplicate the issue. We would appreciate if you can flash the latest BIOS bellow to try. Thanks!"

Changing back to 24bit pretty much drops it to one channel straight away.

Hi all,
I've got the issue with AE-5 since october 2019.
Sounds on left channel swap to the right channel randomly.

My specs :

- MSI x570 Gaming Edge ( driver 2.04.04.111 - Bios 7C37v17 )
- Corsair 750 RMx
- Ryzen 3600
- Sound BlasterX AE-5 ( driver 6.0.105.50 - SB Command 3.4.66.1 beta)
- Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT ( driver 20.4.1 )
- 32goDDR4
- Windows 10 Pro 1909
- Sennheiser HD 700

Sometimes, i can play several hours without the issue appear. Sometimes, the issue comes after only 10 minutes...
I tested many drivers without success...

Many people are concerned by this issue...

Until all the problems are fixed ( Come on Creative ! WAKE UP ! )
In the meantime I made a little powershell script :

#Stop Creative audio service
Stop-Service CTAudSvcService
#Pause 2sec
Start-Sleep -Seconds 2
#Restart Windows audio service
Restart-Service Audiosrv
#Pause 2sec
Start-Sleep -Seconds 2
#Start Creative audio service
Start-Service CTAudSvcService

Then I compiled it into an exe file and I created a scheduled task.
Finally I created a macro on my roccat vulcan which points to this task .

This temporarily fixes the problem ( until the problem comes back ).

I seems that is looks like an issue with the PCI-e 4.0 support that comes witn the x570 boards for soundcard. I have the same issue . My soundchannels are mixed up now and then. I have a Gigabyte  x570 mboard. When I set the PCI to 3.0 in the bios it al works fine. Waiting for a bios update to resolve this.

Hello, i made a few things and solved problem on 99% for me.
I have MSI x570 Gaming Plus, Sound Blaster Z and Logitech x540 5.1

- in bios\ advanced\pci subsystem => chipset gen switch - GEN 2
- in speakers properties\advanced => 16bit/96kHz, Exclusive Mode all uncheck, Signal Enhancement uncheck.

After all ,swapping channels is very very rare and if happened from sound blaster z control panel speakers=>headphones and back again solved this issue.

I feel a bit late to this but I'm having the same problem.  I own an MSI x570 Gaming Edge Wifi.  Has this been resolved?

I first noticed this the end of last spring/early summer time frame when I used a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z.  In May of last year, I upgraded my system from an Intel system to an AMD 3900x CPU and this motherboard.  I first thought this issue had to be tied to the big Windows 10 May 2019 release of last year since I upgraded so soon after that.  Time went by and windows updates did not resolve this.  I since began to wonder if this is an AMD Chipset and/or driver issue or some sort of an MSI mobo issue.

I have since upgraded to a Sound Blaster AE-9 hoping the newer card and drivers would resolve this.  They did not.  I have worked with Creative Lab's tech support.  They have been troopers in this and have tried in vain to resolve this having made numerous suggestions on how to resolve this after reviewing my system.  They have not been able to help.  I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this, including disabling Hyperthreading among other things.  No help.  I have installed the latest BIOS for my board as well as chipset drivers.

I have since noticed, like others, lowering the bit rate and such helps but does not resolve it (for me anyway).  I don't know if it was a Windows 10 update, a newer BIOS or what, but the problem has suddenly gotten worse recently.  I play Battlefield 5 and Doom Eternal for now when it comes to games.  BF5 does not have this issue.  Doom Eternal does.  I could lower the bit rate on the card in the past and the issue was tolerable.  Now for some reason, it has gotten so bad nothing I do seems to help.  I can no longer play Doom.  I am looking forward to seeing Flight Simulator 2020 come out.  I'm afraid I won't be able to play it.

I also see this issue in Web Browsers when watching videos with audio, such as Youtube.  Sometimes the issue doesn't happen, sometimes the issue happens occasionally, sometimes the issue is so bad I have to stop listening.

Like others, I can swap my speaker out from speakers to headphone and back to speakers.  This resolves the issue until it happens again.

Does this problem also occur using the motherboard's built in sound?  I hate the thought of using the onboard sound but if it will work I'll try anything at this point in the hope it will be temporary.

Thanks,
Chris Smith

I have an X570 Gaming Plus and a Soundblaster ZX sound card. And this inversion of channels happens sometimes, especially when listening to Spotify. It will only return to normal if you restart your computer. I'm on Bios 7C37vA6.

Has anyone tried the BETA BIOS MSI just released for this board? Perhaps it helps?

I got home a bit ago.  I enabled the onboard audio in the BIOS, installed the drivers, and got it all going again.

Not bad.  Not bad at all.  I do prefer Creative Labs sound, particularly since it will do surround sound and you get sound coming out of the center speaker (5.1 setup here) in games when I just hear voice only now, but this does sound pretty good.  Bass in particular seems to be WAY better with onboard sound.  The thing I hate is listening to stereo music, such as Youtube videos.  Creative would do Surround so you got voice out of center speaker while the front left and right speaker played music.  The onboard sound doesn't do that.  Creative was WAY better for listening to just stereo music.  Hands down.  No contest.

Still for general listening and gaming, this isn't bad.   Gaming in particular is quite good.

I don't know if this is a Creative issue or an MSI issue, but Creative needs to step and figure out the problem.  If it's MSI's fault, they need to tell MSI.  If they don't, they'll lose me as a customer and I doubt I'll be the only one.

I have a MAJOR update to this...

MSI released a beta BIOS not long ago, v1.91.  It was released by AMD (It made the news big time).  Among other things, it claimed to resolve some PCIE issues.

I normally hate to install beta BIOS code.  But, I hoped this would resolve my issue.

IT DID!!!

I installed this three days ago.  Doom Eternal produced this issue like clock work every time.  Listening to audio in a web browser (such as youtube videos) sometimes caused the problem as well.  Battlefield 5 was always fine, interestingly enough.

After installing the beta bios, I played Doom Eternal multiple times for at least an hour each time.  I have also listened to audio in my web browser.  After three days and several hours, I'm NOT able to reproduce this!!

I just noticed MSI has again released a new BETA BIOS, v1.92.  It says it fixes Audio issues for multiple devices.  Hmmm......

Install.  Once done, power the system down and pull the power cable for 5-10 seconds to reset everything and then boot back up.

My system is absolutely rock solid now with no issues at all.  I'm freaking loving this!!

I will say I no longer have the Sound Blaster Z.  I am using the Sound Blaster A-E9 now.  I had the same issue on both the Z and A-E9 so this may help the older Z users out too.

I hope this really helps someone else.

Enjoy everyone,

Chris Smith

I've had this problem too, stuttering music in everything with Sound blaster Z really thought it was the motherboard which it was in some way, I already bought a new optical cable and DTS is now working perfectly with the latest Beta bios(v1.92) bios gets reset, but your presets stays saved

Off topic question but I've got to ask.  Are you updating your BIOS and your settings are preserved somehow?  I'm updating the BIOS using the built in M-Flash utility.  All my settings are reset back to defaults.  I have to reenter BIOS to set 5-6 items back to what I want.

How are you doing this?

Thanks,
Chris Smith

Bios 7C37vA84 solved problem with my X570 Gaming Plus. I updated it yesterday. I didn't register any issue with swapping channels on Soundblaster Zx so far.

Well, I got a bit of bad news to report.

The sound issue came back for me for a bit.  Luckily, I was able to resolve it (I think).

I updated my system yesterday (or late Saturday, I'm not sure...) to the BETA BIOS v1.92 for MSI MPG x570 Gaming Edge WIFI.  While looking over MSI's website, I noticed something I never noticed before.  They have a relatively new Realtek Ethernet driver out.  I had never installed it before; I was using Microsoft's driver.  So, I download the Ethernet driver and installed it.

After a while, I started to play Doom Eternal.  10-15 minutes into the game, the sound started to jump from speaker to speaker.  Thinking it was a BIOS problem, I uninstalled v1.92 and went back to the BETA v1.91 BIOS.  The problem still did not resolve itself.  After thinking about things and trying to remember what else I changed or did, I realized I had installed the Realtek Ethernet driver.  I uninstalled it and rebooted.  The system reinstalled Microsoft's driver for the NIC and my network resumed working.

The sound started to work fine again as best as I can tell.  I didn't get to play long, 30 minutes or so, but it seemed to work fine.   I'll test it some more when I get home later.  If I get the notion, I'll reinstall the BIOS v1.92.  I will wait a day or two to test and see if the sound still works.  If the sound still works, I'll reinstall the Realtek Ethernet driver and see what happens.

Something curious about the Realtek Ethernet drivers compared to Microsoft's.  When I went to the NIC properties, I noticed a LOT more options which weren't there before when the Realtek drivers were installed.   I noticed a bunch of Green Mode stuff, sleep stuff, etc..

All of this makes me think of something I saw a while back while trying to resolve the sound problem and also some issues with AMD's Radeon 5700 XT; some people seemed to think there were issues with the motherboard and/or x570 chipset or perhaps it was the BIOS and chipset drivers.  Some people in particular pointed to the power states and various hibernation modes of the system.  I'm beginning to think they were right.  Is it possible one or two devices go to sleep after little to no use or some part of the system does and it causes problems?

I'll keep everyone posted on what I'll find after I do some more work and I'll contact MSI's tech support as well.

Thanks,
Chris Smith

I forgot to add a small note, I went from the 1.91 beta version to 1.92 for the gaming edge wifi, bios got reset, but before I updated it through the M-Utility(in bios) i've saved the settings in the bios, after the update to 1.92 that preset was still there, and I selected it, and all worked a-ok after a restart

EDIT: I also disabled the Realtek audio in bios(Onboard audio controller)

Hagi,

Check out djgazel's reply above in Reply #54.  He has the same board as you and updated his BIOS to that version.  He is reporting good results.

I have the model motherboard just below the one you have and my BETA BIOS update worked fine.  I reinstalled v1.92 after my temporary sound issue (I have since removed the realtek network drivers).  The sound is still working fine.

I'm betting things work out fine for you.  Update and report back you results!!

Alright.  I have more to report on this.

I currently have the v1.92 BETA BIOS installed on my system.  Sound functioning just fine for multiple days and multiple hours of game play in Doom Eternal.  Doom is quite reliable at producing the sound issue if there is indeed a problem.

I reinstalled the newest Realtek Ethernet drivers on MSI's website for my board and rebooted.  Shortly, after starting Doom, the sound issue returned.  I left Doom and restarted it.  Sound started out fine but messed up 5 minutes or so into gameplay.  I left Doom, uninstalled the Realtek drivers, rebooted, and let Win10 reinstall the Microsoft drivers for Ethernet.  Sound works fine once more.

If you have the Realtek Ethernet drivers installed and are having sound issues, consider uninstalling them if possible.

I'm going to report this to MSI.

I hope this helps someone else out.
