Strange behaviour from X670e Tomahawk

Greetings good people,

I have been rocking an X670e Tomahawk for almost 2 years now, Recently, about 10 days or so, I upgraded the BIOS to ver. 7E12v1H, which is the latest at the time of typing this. I also reinstalled a copy of Windows 11. All is well execpt that sometimes when I boot my PC from a cold boot, the PC takes longer than normal to boot into Windows and windows feels very sluggish like even the mouse pointer jumps around and clicking or trying to open any app feels impossible—turning the PC off then on again from a cold boot fixes this.
PC specs :

7800X3d
2x32GB DDR5 6000T Gskill RAM
4080 SuprimX
512 GB Samsung 960 pro SSD for booting
2TB Kingston Fury SSD
1TB Samsung EVO 840 SATA
1TB Seagate HD
Antec 1350w PSU

Hi guys, how are things with this problem? Are there any solutions? Recently, I installed the beta version — the slow loading is still there, and now a blue screen has appeared. I rolled back afterward.

I have not tried the new Beta BIOS, but I am not sure it solves the problem. I will wait for an official non-Beta BIOS, and I would prefer a totally new AGESA other than 1.2.0.3 variants

I just built a system with a x670e Tomahawk and got some very slow behavior with Windows background tasks taking up to 30% of the CPU after reboot or randomly.
It was a migration of W10 from a x370 motherboard.
Alas one day W11 login became impossible.
Then I started again a new W11 migration from backup of the precedent tentative.
Since I did it I do not have any more lag, with the same hardware.
Also, in my case, W11 seems to be the culprit.

For some reason, my PCIe slot seems locked at PCIe 3.0 for the GPU, although I have an RTX 4080, which should be set to PCIe 4.0. I tried to set it manually from the BIOS, but still Windows boots, and GPU-Z says it is still PCIe 3.0!!!
Though I am on a non-beta version 7E12v1J!

Okay, I will try the latest beta and see if it fixes this issue, as well as the sluggish performance. Fingers crossed!

OK, just booted with 7E12v1K3 and the GPU is now working on PCie 4.0 as it should! Next, I need to see if this Beta BIOS fixes the sluggishness that I have been witnessing with all AGESA 1.2.0.3

P.S. I am not running EXPO on this BIOS yet.

So far, so good for me. I just build my son a new system with my 7800X3d and I now have a 9800X3d. Runs hotter than the former...but seems pretty stable with this bios. My 5080 is running PcIe 5 x 16 and my two Western Digital SN850x drives are still present, fast and stable. Haven't seen anything quirky, yet

  • A new firmware has been released for my motherboard as well. I hope they have already fixed this issue, otherwise I will have to buy a new board. Does anyone have any news about the slow performance? Description:- AGESA PI 1.2.0.3g updated. - Improved compatibility of the Ryzen 8000 series CPU. - Multiple OC solutions implemented.

Is everyone still having the same stability issues? I updated to 7E12v1K3(Beta version) from 7E12v1G in Oct and since then I have had these same random errors occasionally on cold boot. Event viewer shows nvlddmkm.sys errors before the freeze/crash/reboot. It's only randomly on startup, maybe once/week. I can game for 12 hours and never see a crash. Debating if I should just rollback all the way to 7E12v1G.

I never had the PCIE issue, but the system does feel slow and alggy, but I don't know if it's windows 11, everything is just mess up totally.
which bios should I be using to have everything working correctly? I am using the bios since 4/29

I did. I actually reverted to Dec 2024 bios yesterday to see if that worked. Had the same issue this morning, then saw they (of course) finally released this one. I'm on it now, so we'll see, but im not optimistic. It also says the actual build in bios is pre-1.3.0.0.

Keep us updated, Fingers crossed, but ya, I saw it was a beta 1.3.0.0, which made me back off from flashing. MSI is surely taking more time than the competition with their BIOS rollout!

Obviously hasn't been enough time yet to tell, but i did more reading on other forums that already got this version. Apparently this one and the next 1.3.0.0a haven't fixed it either. We're going to be waiting awhile or we have to simply buy a non-msi board. If anyone is still confused about what's happening, look up pcie 1.1 boot issues. Our boards are randomly getting stuck at a specific pcie gen speed. 1.1 you are basically going to freeze or black screen trying to get into windows. 2.0 it will be laggy/stutters but you can still do things. 3.0 you probably won't notice but its good to check gpu-z to see if you're locked below where it should be. I notice 3.0 every so often, and I get the 1.1 and a crash about once a week. Every other time it boots to 4.0 (what i have it set to in bios) and runs perfectly fine until I turn it off. I might set it back to 5.0 just so I have more chances on my dice roll lmao.

I do get the 2nd state of this problem, the 2.0 one, and sometimes get some screen corruption too. I wish I could get a new board, but currently, this is out of the question due to financial issues

Did you have the same issue a few years ago? I was reading through a thread from 2023 where people were having the same problems and I saw you had commented. Seems like changing the SOC voltage helped a few of them, but I couldn't tell if it ever got resolved through a previous BIOS update or not.

yes with AGESA Pre 1.2.0.3 setting the SOC voltage to 1.3 solved the issue, but since the AGESA 1.2.0.3 it got broken again!
