Ok bought my GD85 and I've noticed a strange and annoying ringing sound coming from above the memory dims where the led lights are (not very loud i grant u but as it's the nosiest thing in my pc as i have watercooling). My question is, is this a general fault with this type of motherboard or is it just likely i have a faulty board (still works but then i haven't stressed the board at all yet)?

That has seemed to have stopped it. So do you know if this is a general fault or just a fault with mine? because i actually want to be able to use these settings. So wanting to know if i RMA this board back to the supplier to get a replacement that i wont get the same problem again.

Win 7 64bit

Mind u bit unsure why u even need those spec's as it's quite a simple question whether it's a common problem or just a one off. Mind u suppose only someone actually working at MSI will be able to tell me that if they do at all. Unless someone actually has a GD85 :p

Such "ringing" noises are not uncommon and usually occur during load changes or to be more precise:  when frequency & voltage modulating features kick in.  My main interest was your PSU and you still haven't mentioned anything specific about that.  Essentially, such high-frequency noises are ALWAYS present, but after all it depends on the sensibility of the somebody's ears if it is actually hearable or not.  For example, my system appears to me as quiet as it could be but a have one particular friend who claims that there is an annoying high-frequency noise coming from it.

Of course, there could be a problem with the board, but there is also a chance that the ringing is just a resonance effect caused by "noisy" power supplied by your PSU.

That has seemed to have stopped it.

Okay, re-enable one settings after the other (step by step) to try to find out which power saving feature is responsible for the ringing noise.

Yea well when i say "ringing" it's obvious to everyone as it specifically happens after boot and really only seems to happen when moving the mouse or being in a web browser (unusually it doesn't happen when gaming (tested it will all the fan's turn off). Well if there is ringing noise coming from other boards it's never been like this as they are nearly inaudible (even with good hearing). But no this seems to be alot louder and also only happens in certain cases otherwise the ringing is only audible with ur ear very close to the location.

Hehe wish it was as simple as just a resonance from the psu but it's not even in the case and it's in it's own compartment (lian li v2110b). Tried with multiple top quality psu's (mainly OCZ modstream pro and Corsair HX series (750 and 650 w). But yea considering i've built hundreds of custom pc's and this is the first time i've heard anything like this coming from the board, points to me that it's a fault. That's why i just need to know if it's happened with anyone else so i can find out if it's just a general hardware design fault (seems to come specifically from the LED phase indicator's) or just my board.

You think it might be worth contacting MSI directly ?

I would do that in your case, just to find out what they have to say about it.

What about this:

Okay, re-enable one settings after the other (step by step) to try to find out which power saving feature is responsible for the ringing noise.

... contacting MSI is much more efficient the more specific the problem description actually is.

Well I actually know where it's coming from specifically from the LED's for the PSU power phase levels. So it's no surprise that disabling these power settings will make the noise less noticeable. Will check though to see which one it is specifically cause as u said the more detail the better. However it seems to be cumulative so for example disabled a few of them before but not all ( excluding turning the LED's themselves off as that just seems to remove the problem completely) seems to make it quieter but not completely. Was just hoping for a quick answer but ah well not a very popular board so shouldn't be surprised that noone has a definitive answer. Just need someone with this board :p.
