If you guys like to play around with MenuetOS you might have a look at KolibriOS as well.  It is based on an early MenuetOS distribution but has become a project of its own:

Link: http://www.kolibrios.org/?&lang=en

Some Features:

- Boots from several devices, NTFS is also supported. You can even start it from Windows (Windows will shutdown)
- Graphic user interface based on VESA
- Development kit: code editor with a macro-assembler (FASM) integrated
- TCP/IP stack support
- Fits on a single 1.44MB Floppy (most applications are packed)
- Runs with a 12Mb of RAM
- Pre-emptive multitasking, streams, parallel execution of system calls
- Supported file systems are FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 (long names support), NTFS (read only)
- AC'97 audio codec support for Intel, nForce, nForce2, nForce3, nForce4 and SIS7012 chipsets
- CD and DVD support

For anyone still interested in MenuetOS and/or KolibriOS:

-MenuetOS (latest versions):

--> September 5th, 2007: M64 0.67e released!
--> August 12th, 2007: M32 0.85 released!

Changelogs can be found here:  http://www.menuetos.net/download.htm

At least the newer releases of the 64bit version also contain a basic AVI-Player. It was implemented in the 0.64 release (M64) in July 2007:

-KolibriOS

There seem to be no new releases since June 2007.  However, I discovered that there is a special forum for Kolibri.  It only has 116 Members so far, but considering the fact that this OS is a rather experimental project, this number is not that bad:

Brilliant little 64 bit OS. I tried V0.89d and it worked great on my E8400. Some nice little 3D demos included now. Kolibrios is pretty cool too.  :agrees:

Nope, the whole architecture of the operating system has not much to do with Windows.
