Hey, when I turn on my PC I'm getting a very briefly displayed message "there is no vbios support detected in this card", PC then boots into windows as normal.
Motherboard is the MSI MPG z690 Carbon (DDR5 version), using the latest BIOS
GPU is a 3080.
Is this likely just a bug, or something that I should be concerned about?

That's odd. If anything, it should be the other way around:

I explain that a bit in this thread: Warning about the new "Secure Boot" BIOS when using an older graphics card!

VBIOS support would only be needed when the BIOS is in CSM mode. But a Z690 board with the newest BIOS would never set CSM mode on its own.
So when you have the BIOS in UEFI mode, which would be the norm, and you tried to use an old graphics card, then you might get the "no GOP detected" message or no picture.

So can you check what the BIOS is set to, UEFI or CSM? And why darkhawk wants to know your GPU model, it might need this update: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5233/

Anyway, if the BIOS is set to CSM for some reason, then that reason might be that you re-used an existing Windows and found that it only boots in CSM mode, for example.
We would have to set that to UEFI mode again and fix the ensuing boot problem by doing an MBR to GPT conversion for the boot drive. But that's a lot of "ifs" still.

i have this message one day in a mounth.. randomly..(all the times i must to change csm to uefi again in bios and boot normally)
n.b.
(MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI)
rtx 2060 super mini zotac > no vbios update avable
already tried :
cms reset
update last motherboard bios

Then you have "mpg z490 gaming carbon wifi" and not " MSI MPG z690 Carbon (DDR5 version)" like you listed on your 1st post?
Can you clarify what board you have exactly?

P.S: I just saw that you are different person, and not the topic starter.

And this is why it is preferred you start a new topic to prevent confusion different boards have slightly different solutions.
Plus this bit of the Forum Rules as well since we going to quote them

Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I'm using a Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 10G (LHR).
The motherboard BIOS is 7D30v17
Gigabyte GPU have been know to be some what temperamental with MSI Motherboards.
Cause is not Know
And it is a some what strange problem as your GPU may well work perfectly in any other MSI board.
And another Gigabyte GPU may work with out a problem on your Current board.

I have the same mobo and running an RTX 3090 Founders Edition. When I was following some advice to reduce lag or frame drops in Modern Warfare 2 I followed a suggestion to disable core isolation memory integrity in windows security. When I did this I was getting this same error when booting. As soon as I re enabled core isolation it went away. Not sure if you have that disabled or not. I'm running Windows 11.

I get the same message also and rebooting is a mess. I have an MSI MPG Z690 Force WIFI motherboard. It happened after I installed an MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ventus 2X 8G OC GPU.
