To all MSI gx660 and gx640 or gx740 users / starcraft 2 performance

Hi.

I got my gx660 a month ago, first game i installed was starcraft 2. I was pretty shocked with the performance, the gx660 can't handle the game at all. I'm forced to play on low and the frames drop in 1v1 maxed out army battles below 20. I have no idea if it's just me or if this notebook just can't handle this game.

I'd be thankfull for some feedback from other users and for some ideas how to solve this problem.

I am playing starcraft 2 on an i7 @4ghz with 6gb of ram and crossfired 5770's which should slightly overpower the 5870 in the GX660 and I am able to boost everything to max. even on 4v4 frames remain at LEAST above 40. averaging at 60-70. Bottleneck is of course the GFX cards as the cpu only gets used to around 30 percent.
Check your power plan is set to gaming or something appropriate like high performance.
 
I've tested some older games but it's hard to compare them to sc2. There were no problems I can play them maxed out and the fps never drop.
 
Are you gaming on battery or mains power?

Poor performance in online MMO games is also caused by slow or bad internet connection, as Bas already stated.
 
But the fps should not drop since the only thing responsible for them is my cpu gpu and ram. The lag can cause drops as in me getting dropped from the game and lag spikes not fps drops.
 
One thing I noticed is that when I was running games on my FX600 is that it would run on the Intel card by default. I had to go into the Nvidia control panel and tell it to use that card.  Once I did, the games I ran were smooth and there was a difference.  I'd check your 3D Panel settings and confirm your game is using the Nvidia card when the game is run.

The GX660 has an integrated AMD Mobility HD5870 GPU, and does not feature switchable GPUs, like your notebook.

Can someone else please suggest something ?
Is there a way for me to determine if something's wrong with the laptop ?
Or maybe it's just not able to handle the graphics in starcraft 2.
 
The game should runs like a charm in this machine.

Is your notebook up to date? [Contain latest: BIOS, EC, VBIOS]
Do you use VGA drivers from MSI web for your card?
Do you use latest game patch for starcraft 2?

Maybe you have some driver mess?
Or some AV or other resident scanner installed that harm your performance?
What score you gain in 3dmark11?
Or perhaps your issues[low fps, slowdown] are caused by overheating?


 
So i ran the test in 3dmark and my score is: P2141 3DMarks

I'm pretty clueless so If anyone can analyze the scores for me I'd be grateful.

scores are normal

Run Furmark:

and leave to it to test for about 1 hour, see if everything will goes smooth without slowdown/lockup/crashing/artifacting/reboot
 
I forgot to mention my GPU drivers are up to date i downloaded ccc 11.6 from the amd driver site.
And i think that BIOS is also up to date but I'm not sure.

about BIOS and EC-FW, look in BIOS Setup, System information.

Running the test right now, but I'm running it in the resolution suggested 1280/720.
Should I run it in my native screen resolution 1980/1020 ?
