Transitioning to Linux

I have a MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC board with an Intel I9 CPU, GeForce RTX2070 card, 2 M2 SSD drives.
Currently running Win 10, but intend to leave the Microsoft world soon.
Planning to put in a new SSD for fresh a install of Linux (probably Ubuntu).
I there anything I need to anticipate or plan for as far as the BIOS or board for transitioning?
Thanks for your advice.

With the older board you might be alright. Plan on using the Linux forums for most of your help.

Thanks for the reply.
The Linux forums for this subject really only list hardware compatibility lists, etc.
I was looking for advice like
"Oh, no. Don't do it" or
"Be sure to set the boot mode from UEFI to ...".
But it's all good. That's why I'll keep my Win10's SSD intact for a fallback it something doesn't work.
Cheers!,
Mark

Do it. Linux is much more fun and engaging. + it doesn't spy on its users and you've full control of what packages get installed :) I love Alpine Linux.

Yes, I agree. I've already made the decision to transition: have been testing my compatibility using Debian on an old Dell M4400. I'm ready to load [Ubuntu?] onto my main box. Just wanted to avoid any 'gotchas'.
My BIOS boot mode is currently CSM, but I don't knw why - I'm running Win10 and the partitioning is GPT. So... Hmm.

Some older boards defaulted to CSM

And some older hardware, like GPU's may not run on a UEFI BIOS

Thanks. It must've been the default. I didn't know about different partitioning systems 6 years ago. I've set it to UEFI and all is well.
I know the board is old (hence posting to "Older Motherboards") but it works for what I needed, and currently need, so...
I'm just running through a few things before I replace the SSD and load a new OS.
