So long story short, I have a Trident 3 020US which has a 1060 with 3GB of VRAM, and 230W power supply.
I would like to buy a 330W PSU and upgrade to the Gigabyte 1080 mini ITX card, which has the same measurements as the 1060 it currently has.
Would that be possible? Or would there be some kind of problems that I am not seeing right now?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi

I think GTX1080 will be too much for 330W PSU. I wouldn't count on it to work properly.
Just wondering, why didn't you get a Nightblade or even Aegis if you thought about upgrading?

Hi Nichrome thanks for the answer,
Since I was told on the website that the Trident 3 was upgradable aswell. And it was much, much cheaper then the Aegis and Nightblade..

Thanks for the quick reply!
The only reason I thought it would work is the 1080's TDP is only 180W, which is 50W over that of the 1060, and the 330W adapter would provide a 100W increase in power supply.
Guess I could settle with a 1070, then?

Its just safer to go with more watts than you need. Its also more efficient for the psu power draw at about half capacity. If something happens where the 1080 doesn't get all the power it needs you could be getting blue screens and other bad stuff. It also would make overclocking capabilities nonexistent.

That does make sense. A friend of mine said that he heard the 1060 version of Trident 3 has its motherboard locked to provide no more than 230W of power even if I change the power brick. I didn't think that was a thing. Does anyone know if this is true?
