Hi guys, recently just built this pc with windows 10 64bit on it.
CPU: Intel I5-8400
MOBO: MSI h370 gaming pro carbon
GPU: MSI GTX1080 gaming x
RAM: 16gb corsair vengeance lpx
PSU: Corsair rm650x
CASE: NZXT S340 Elite
Recently i bought three case fans, Corsair ml120, to replace the stock fans from my case. I noticed that there was a socket on the motherboard "jcorsair1" and plugged the connector from the fan hub into it. I thought that i would be able to use mysticlight to configure the color of the fans, but when i opened the app, all i could see was my motherboard and gpu. So i thought that by updating the bios i would be able to control it. Downloaded the bios files from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H370-GAMING-PLUS and flashed it. However after the bar went to 100%, i got a blue screen, bad system config info. I managed to get pass that and boot into windows. That is when i found out that my ethernet adapter stopped working. It gives me the error "Ethernet Connection I129-V adapter is experiencing driver - or hardware - related problems" and giving me "code 10 device cannot start". Did more research and found out my mac address was invalid. So i went to check my network adapters, but the page was empty. Did getmac on command prompt and got "disabled" and "disconnected". I then reverted my bios version back in hopes of being able to get my mac address back, but didnt work.
What should i do now?

Hello,

Downloaded the bios files from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H370-GAMING-PLUS and flashed it
Why "GAMING PLUS", you wrote your mobo model is "GAMING PRO CARBON" (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H370-GAMING-PRO-CARBON#down-bios)?

Begin by a clear CMOS:
- Unplug the power cord and wait that all mobo's LED lit off.
- Either
. short JBAT1 during 10s (if you have not a jumper cap, you can use something like a screwdriver but be cautious to touch only the 2 pins of JBAT1),
. remove the battery cell during 30mn.
- Plug the power cord then power on.
- Load bios default values when asked during start then change nothing in bios for the moment (if you do not see this question, retry because CMOS was not cleared).
Have you now retrieved LAN?

If not, with what have you upgraded then downgraded bios?
If I goodly understood, your LAN worked previously with this initial bios version. Is it right?

Please, try to reload bios following exactly that:
- Take a FAT32 USB flash drive having a size (not only the partition but the drive) not upper than 16GB.
- Insert it in one USB 2.0 port (those below the PS/2).
- Do a CHKSDSK for it.
- Download >>V1.10<<.
- Unzip "E7B16IMS.110" file on HDD.
- Copy it at the root of the USB flash drive.
- Restart and enter in bios setup (press <DEL> during start), then press <F6> (reset to optimized defaults), change nothing in bios, then press <F10> (save change) and you pc should restart.
- Enter again in bios setup.
- Choose M-Flash button and you will be helped by the computer for the next.

If LAN does not work again, enter in bios setup then:
- verify that "SETTINGS \ Advanced \ Integrated Peripherals \ Onboard LAN Controller" = "Enabled" (default value),
- set "SETTINGS \ Advanced \ Integrated Peripherals \ Onboard LAN Controller \ Network Stack" = "Enabled" ("Disabled" is the default value),
- goto "SETTINGS \ Advanced \ Intel ( R ) Ethernet Connection I219-V", do a screenshot (press <F12>) then upload the copy here (click on the "Attachments and other options" entry in your reply).

Hoping this will help,
:emot-tip-wink:

Hello!

So sorry i copied the wrong link, i definitely downloaded the correct bios file for my motherboard! It was from https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H370-GAMING-PRO-CARBON, version 7B16v11 (came with my motherboard and yes the LAN was working before i did this stunt) to version 7B16v12.

I cleared the CMOS but still did not get my ethernet back. I upgraded the bios by flashing the downloaded bios file linked above (7B16v12) then shortly after that received the blue screen.

Followed your instructions but did not get the CHKSDSK part, do you mean CHKDSK command? If so, i did so and received no errors.
Followed all your instructions but to no avail, nothing changed.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Yes, I do but now, it does not matter.

You screen copy show that you are with the 1.10 bios version and the ethernet MAC address is undefined. You are right, with that, LAN cannot work! Please, can you try what is explained >>here<< to verify that your adapter is working with a good MAC address (use the one suggested in the article)?

Good luck,
:emot-tip-wink:

I have one tiny little problem...when i open the "change adapter settings" tab in network and sharing center, i do not see my ethernet adapter at all, only the wifi card i installed as a placeholder

When i right click it, it waits for a while and gives me the red error. 10 seconds later, the window pops up but i do not see the full list of properties (advanced is missing)

Hooo, it is not good! :scratchchin:
Please, enter again in bios, press <F6> (load default values), the <F10> (save change) and retry.

(next)
Clearly, either the previous bad bios update has erased the adapter MAC address or you have a short between the case and the mobo. I believe it is the first case. Please can you see on your mobo rear panel if the MAC address is written on the top of the LAN port like that:
[attachthumb=1]
(thanks to Svet for this image). Have you?

It certainly doesnt :( Anyways, i resetted the bios settings to default (changing network stack to disable from enable) but nothing changed the adapter is still not there.
I took out my GPU and my fan but there is no MAC address written on the top of the LAN port like the one in the picture (there is a heatsink blocking is it called a heatsink?)

Ok, at this step, you have 3 options:
- Disable the mobo's I219-V (esay to do in bios) and buy an ethernet card
- Take the risk to reprogram the MAC address with one unused on your local network
- Ask to MSI Support and wait for their response: >>How to contact MSI<<.
What do you want to do?
:emot-tip-wink:

I would want to reprogram the MAC address with one on my local network, if that fails then i'll go out and buy an ethernet card.
Thank you so much for your replies up to now, you really are amazing!

NOT with one on your LAN but with one NOT on your LAN. ;D

Get this Intel's utility: >>EEUPDATE<<.
Extract the zip on a boot drive (for example a USB flash drive formatted with Rufus). Boot on this last, then enter the command:
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS> (only the 6x2 digits in hexadecimal: no ":" or "-")
I hope that this 2014' version of EEUPDATE will work on the I219-V adapter.

Hoping this will work,

Boot on it last? Do you mean first? I tried to put it as my first boot device but it boots me right back into windows am i doing something wrong? I have already formatted my USB stick with rufus (FreeDOS)

Have you created your USB Flash drive with Rufus like that:
[attachthumb=1]
Plug it on your pc then copy the EEUPDATE.EXE on it. Reboot and press <F11> when the MSI spalsh screen displays. Select the USB key. Now, you would have a black screen with something like "C:>". You can now type my previous command.

Ah well i got an error after typing that in "No supported adapters were located". Guess that's it then, will be sending MSI a ticket about this hope that they would be able to help. If not maybe i could get a exchange for a new board

Try with that (where I219 is listed): >>mac207a.zip<<. Extract all on the root of the USB flash drive. Boot on this last then

1/ Type the following command:
mac c <MAC ADDRESS> (only the 6x2 digits in hexadecimal: no ":" or "-")
If it runs successfully, you will see a message like "MAC: XXXXXXXXXXXX SUM: XX"

2/ If previous does not work, enter:
cd Int219
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS> (only the 6x2 digits in hexadecimal: no ":" or "-")
If it runs successfully, you would see something like that:
[attachthumb=1]
To verify that MAC address has been updated, type:
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac_dump
You would see the new value in the display

3/ If #2 does not work, enter:
cd ../Int219KB
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS>
(verification as for #2)

Hoping that one will work,
:emot-tip-wink:

I just did all three, however number 2 and 3 yielded the same results, saying no supported adapters were located.
Number one gave me an error too but i have attached it below.

Hello,

1/ In fact, the "MAC.EXE" utility is furnished by ASrock for its mobos so that, with #1, you obtain error messages when it try to recognize the mobo then the onboard LAN adapter.

2/ With #2, "EEUPDATE.EXE" is again too old to recognize I219-V. After verification, in the "Int219" directory, it is the version (11/2014) you have already tried so that the result is the same: no supported adapters were recognized.

3/ With #3, I am really surprised you obtain the same result because, in the "Int219KB" directory, there is the last "EEUPDATE.EXE" version (02/2016). Furthermore, one has already applied it successfully on the I219-V (see https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/psa-gigabyte-f20b-bios-changes.207965/page-6, post Feb 1, 2017 at 9:58 PM)

 :scratchchin:
Please, can you retry:
Boot again on the USB key where you have extracted the archive "mac207a.zip" then type each group of the following commands until success:

1/ (another "EEUPDATE.EXE" version: 01/2015)
cd \intx550 (verify that you see now in the dos screen "c:\IntX550>")
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS> (only the 6x2 digits in hexadecimal: no ":" or "-")

2/ (version 02/2015)
cd \intx557 (verify that you see now in the dos screen "c:\IntX557>")
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS>

3/ (version 02/2016, please retry)
cd \int219kb (verify that you see now in the dos screen "c:\Int249KB>")
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=<MAC ADDRESS>

If one runs successfully, you can then verify MAC address has been updated with the command:
eeupdate /nic=1 /mac_dump

To finish, 2 last commands:
cd \int219kb (verify that you see now in the dos screen "c:\Int249KB>")
celo
Then, do a screen copy and upload it.

Hoping this will work successfully now,
:emot-tip-wink:
