My PC/Laptop (MSI Katana A17 AI B8VF (2024 series) ) has been acting kinda weird the past couple months (it was during and after a new MSI BIOS update came. i think the update was like 3-4 months back..
even though my msinfo says: BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends International, LLC. E17LNAMS.516, 29/1/2026. I'm way too sure there was an update around march-april under windows update>optional updates that mentioned something like Micro-star etc etc Firmaware update or something similar. it was unlike other updates for sure since i had never seen that in my life. and before i updated and after thats when i had this issue.
I was (and still am) on discrete graphics mode where nvidia graphics card (4060) is the main gpu for all tasks and the igpu sits idle doing nothing at 0%. Also keep in mind that problem does not exist in hybrid mode and there is not a 100% success rate on the "shut downs". it happens randomly, sometimes it shuts down sometimes it doesnt so im not sure what could be causing this. pc is on maximum everything on nvidia settings and windows settings, not power saving stuff and the plug/charger is less than 2 years old (same as pc) so i highly doubt thats the problem. the system is running on upgraded crucial ram, but i can guarantee you its not the issue as i noticed issues almost exactly 1 year after i upgraded the ram.
Now to how the "shut down" feels:
I log in using my password and somewhere between 7-15 seconds i get a black screen for a 1-3 seconds and then the pc completely closes, no attempt to restart or something, just straight up closes like i pulled the plug on a desktop. fair note: through nvidias overlay gpu goes from 0-1% to 6-20% during that time and after a bit of research i found it when the gpu "activates" or turns on or however u wanna phrase it, so yea. chatgpt told me it could be a power delivery issue or something with the nodes but i didnt come to a conclusion that could resolve my problem, i tried DDU in safe mode deleting drivers, restarting in safe mode again, installing the latest nvidia driver, deleting DDU, restarting again in normal mode and downloading nvidia app and control panel. the photo shows the "error" but i doubt it will be of any help.
If anyone knows how to solve this as i doubt its a hardware issue since the timing was perfect with the msi optional update, which i thought i was forced to do since that was the time i started having the issue hoping it would solve it (it didnt) I would be really grateful! any info you might need just let me know and ill be happy to provide it.
(Also I checked a few forums considering unexpected shutdowns and didnt find something like this. my problem is way too specific so i think i would've found it)
