Unwanted Nahimic companion app (NhNotifSys)

Something installed a Nahimic companion app on my system, that presented a system popup to me this morning sending me to https://steelseries.com/blog/nahimic-software-specs-543 . MSI is the most obvious suspect here, since I have 2 MSI products in my new build and nothing from Steelseries or Nahimic.

So far I've traced it down to nahimicNotifSys.exe hiding in \AppData\Local\NhNotifSys\nahimic\, but I have not found a clear way to block or remove it. This is absolutely unwanted behavior, similar to malware, eroding the little trust I have left in the Microsoft operating system. There is no clear indication what program is generating the spam and no way to remove it from my system, although a quick google will show how many have tried.

As MSI is most likely the cause of this pollution, you may want to have a word with your partner about using these kinds of tactics. It seriously makes me reconsider buying any MSI products in the future.

Yup, MSI does come with nahimic typically. Their laptops and other prebuilts.
Although I do see more other brands also use Nahimic.
It is all malware and bloatware to me and I avoid installing this kind of stuff.

Yep. Except I do not have a laptop or prebuilt, I built my own system using 2 MSI components. And I never installed anything Nahimic related. It was either sneakily included in a driver package or pushed in a Windows Update.

Now admittedly, sometimes these extra drivers are required to make certain chips work, but that does not mean I want shovelware that spams my system while I'm working and that offers no option for it to be removed. Pretty sure the EU has rules against this type of practices.

It must have been pushed by Windows update then. MSI/no one has control over apps you install. But if it detects a chip of that kind then likely it picks it up and installs it.

Nahimic is associated with the sound drivers. If you are using the onboard sound with Realtek drivers, then Nahimic can get installed along with them.
