Updating the Monitor FW via USB C

I opened this topic to help to others, if having any difficulties to update your monitor FW via USB C.

It was my big headache to update my MAG 341C x28 OLED Monitor.

I don't have DP input on my laptop, and struggling to find solution since I bought the monitor nearly for 3 months.

FW update tool only recognizing to DP cable to execute the update and in any other attempts, update stacks at 1% and eventually fails.



I eventually managed using high-quality USC C-to USB C cable (which I was using video file transfer for my DJI Mavic 4 Pro Drone.

I directly connected the monitor and MSI Titan 18HX laptop USB C ports. I unplug all other HDMI and USB cables.

Update takes only 3 minutes and successfully completed.

Earlier I also tried USB C cable (cheap ones for charging only, which did not work)

Hope this help to the fellow guys having same difficulties I had.

Is it a specific USB C version of a cable, or brand, that worked for you? Specific bandwidth one perhaps?

Call it luck, don't really wanna risk it when MSI says only use DP-DP cable!! and I'm not getting a MSI Titan laptop to update my monitor

I found out later most recent version MSI monitors actually can do FW update via USB C to USB C
only the issue you must use high caliper USB C cable as I mentioned earlier.
