Hi I have a MSI P67A-C43 motherboard, Bios version E7673IMS V1.13

I am planning to upgrade my current chip i5-2500k to a i7-3770K in the next couple of days and wondered if I need to update the bios?

The next question of course if the first one was yes, how..? (could you point me to the steps involved.)

Thanks!

Yes, you need to update. Following the below updates to latest official bios (5.4 aka E7673IMS.540)

>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
    F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt81_win78_xp.zip

Thanks for the help!

1) I assume I update the bios to version 5.4 before swapping chips?

2) where do I make sure win 8 options are disabled? (on win 7)

I'm reading the forum flasher guide and getting nervous!

thanks!

1) Yes, use older chip to flash. Once flashed, use new one.

2) It's within BIOS "Windows 8/8.1 Features" so make sure these are disabled.

Thanks for the help!

I ran the memory test for two passes, no errors.
I then ran option two to replace the existing bios and it went through the screens and indicated success.
I then shorted the cmos to clear it.

Started the computer back up and it is still shows bios v1.13? It didn't flash correctly.
I did not run the ME drivers a) because the bios did not update b) when I run setup it says I do not have the minimum system requirements.

I looked in bios for something that says "flash not allowed" but didn't find anything locked.

So what did I do wrong? I'm thinking maybe the gods are saying stick with the cpu you have...

Thanks!

Does it matter I am using win 7?

I just watched a couple of videos from msi using mflash. Or use Dos with executable?

Thanks!

But if really preferred to use MFlash, go for it.

i7-3770K is pretty much the best CPU you can put in there. It's also not really worth investing too much into an old system like that. The 3770K achieves around 4000 points in Cinebench R23 Multi and maybe 750 in Single-core, which means that a modern entry-level CPU like the i3-12100F will run rings around it (8500 Multi / 1700 Single).
