Hi all,

Since there are so many posts about this topic I thought it would be nice to have somewhat of an overview.

Let me start by saying that upgrading your Trident 3 (whatever Gen) is possible. BUT, there is a catch: it depends on what kind of motherboard and power supply you are using.
Trident 3 now comes in 7 versions:

VersionsChipsetPCB versionsBIOS version(s)PowerProduct page

Note: This data comes from the datasheets on the specification page within the product page. You can find them in the attachments.

Here is an overview of posts with tested upgrades:

The next question is: which Motherboards and GPU cards work with 230W without additional programs? Which work with 230W using Throttlestop and/or Afterburner? And which work only with 330W?

I have to work now so I'm posting this now, will update this later on.
Feel free to suggest an improvements!

Hi! I’m new to the PC World.
I recently bought an MSI 8th Gen Trident 3 Artic

came with an i7-8700 and GTX 1070.

it has a 330w power supply.
Now I checked the Model and it’s a H310 ver 1.0.

Can I upgrade the GPU?? I’m to upgrade to a rtx 3060. But I checked the Compatibility in the previous page and there’s nothing on it. Doesn’t say if it can or cant.

just wondering if anyone Can shine some light to this.
I have the 7th gen, i7-7700, GTX 1070 and 330W powersupply. Wondering if I can upgrade to a 3060 or even 3060ti, can the 330W PSU handle? Anyone tried?
in a nutshell NO it can not

Can you tell me what Model rtx 3060 you used?? There’s so a few of them. I want to make sure I get one that actually works on it.

Hey I’m here to report that I was able to upgrade my GTX 1070 8gb GPU to a RTX 3060 12gb. It’s from PNY. Probably not the Best Version but it fit and works just fine.

I would advise to keep a eye on the 12v and 5v rails for a bit to make sure they not dropping to much under a full gaming load as to much variation in voltage may lead to hardware failure. There is a reason Nvidia have minimum power recommendations.

I'm fairly new to the PC world. So I'm a bit lost. I really don't know what should I be looking at when keeping an eye on the "12v and 5v". I really appreciate the help tho.

IF you keep a App like Hwinfo64 running in the background as you game it will record the 12v and 5v levels there should only be a very minor different between the MAX and minimum less than 3% for hardware reliability and long life.

any ideas about this? I upgrade my Trident 3 11th now with RTX 3060 OC (Aero ITX) and got a 330W power supply and it seems to work a while, but when I play after 5 minutes the pc shuts down completely. no errors just turns itself off. looks like not enough power to me. but even official MSI states that it should work with RTX 3060 and 330Watts :-(

Had the same problem I bought a dell 330 with the laptop barrel connector same specs as the delta one so thought that would work ,soldered on the 4 pin connector cable from my 230 powersupply it was fine untill I ran a game then the pc would shutdown. Found the correct delta electronics 330 power supply on amazon it worked no problem no more shutdowns. So try another power supply.

I already have Delta Electronics 330W power supply :-( but from some random china onlineshop that also looks quite "suspicious" :-D So i cant really say if its because of that :-( most of the games run fine though

i have this one:
