Username change requests

Note that login is still under old name, just name displayed is changed.

According to http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Profile it should be possible to change the display name. Can't you enable this feature?

Hi

We know it's possible, but I think they want to prevent users from changing names too frequently OR to change names to some offensive stuff (or forbidden like spam). Not sure though.

I guess that makes sense. But how about letting new users choose their display names when registering? I don't remember getting to choose anything, my username was automatically based on my e-mail, which is based on my real name, which I don't like popping up on Google search results.

we have no control over that so please as MSI directly >>How to contact MSI.<<

they tied there own login system to the forum and they have made the decision to do it that way now. before they changed it they allowed you to set up a account here under whatever username you liked but now they base it off email so ask them. (we had alot of people using offensive names and had to deal with them but I guess MSI thought to use there login to make that much harder)

Thanks for the reply. I guess if the reason is to prevent people form using offensive usernames, then they won't change that anytime soon.

i guess that too! it used to be really time consuming to deal with people using some very offensive names so it looks like now us moderators just have to change names when requested to do so which is why this topic is here.
