Which slots do you have the RAM installed in? They should be in the second and fourth slots away from the CPU.

Test one stick at a time to see if both perform the same.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,
I've been having a series of unrelated unfortunate events with my PC recently and i think it's caused by the memory/motherboard I've got
i have G.skill ripjaws 4 DDR4 2x8(16GB) https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c15d-16grbb
and MSI z170a Xpower Gaming Titanium edition
now ,the rams are installed on DIMMs 2 and 4 and had XMP ON

just now my PC was on ,left it for a moment and came back noticing that the screen isn't receiving any data and the motherboard debug LEDss are on 55,06,00 and keeps looping

powering down/up doesn't help as it still giving me no POST and debug LEDs are on the same numbers
so i tried removing the ram on DIMM 4 and i got booted normally (noticed XMP is off)  ,then I've tried to set the settings as the OP said to 1600 Mhz ,T2 ,9,9,9,24
but when trying to change the tRAS to 24 it sets itself to auto ,so I've left the BIOS completely without changes

then I've tried to put the second ram stick back to DIMM 4 ,and i'm booted normally again!

so for now i think it'll live and i'll keep XMP off for now ,but for the sake of not having any sudden freezes , what should i do?

also recently I've had my whole PC freeze when i connect a peripheral into the motherboard's I/O back panel USBs ,it started happening recently occurred for about 3~4 times ,also when it does literally the whole machine freezes even the automatically changing RGB lighting on my graphics card freezes , i'm not sure if it's related or not but it might be

Yes, the memory is compatible. Check to see if you have the latest BIOS.

Hello guys

I've been having a lot of trouble with my z270 Gaming m7 seven and my G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (F4-3200C16D-32GVK),  I'm constantly getting BSODs and from the looks of it, looks like it is the RAM. I already asked the question here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/293360, but I'd like to know if maybe I'm missing some configuration (I'm new to all this).

So if anyone can offer any help, it'll be great.
Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I'm having some issues with my GSKILL ram as well. Everything seems to be working fine, except that the total amount of memory doesn't add up. Instead of 64GB it lists 48 GB (49152MB) in both the BIOS and Windows 7.

The cards are working (leds light up on the board), are in the right slots, and are visibly working in the bios when I look them up. Both with board explorer and in advanced settings.

Tried changing the timings as instructed, albeit to DDR4, but that mostly gets me errors where I have to change back to defaults. Tried a few different frequencies as well.

Frequency is on auto now, which sets it to 2133Mhz.
Timings we're already set to Link with following settings:

tCL: 15
tRCD: 15
tRP: 15
tRas: 36
(tried 16,18,18,38, too, as per the Gskill website, with frequency to 2133Mhz)

Using: G.Skill Ripjaws V 64GB DDR4-3200Mhz 64GB DDR4 3200MHz
Motherboard: MSI X299 SLI PLUS
Processor: Intel Core i7 7820X
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 WINDFORCE OC
BIOS: 15, latest version, update didn't help.

Any ideas of what timings I should use/try? A bit new to manual settings, so not sure what I'm doing either.
Many thanks in advance!

All best,
Maarten

Tried some more settings. Some prevent me from booting, after which I have to clear/flash the CMOS, others make no changes. (I did see the Memory Size change from 49152MB to something like 40960MB. But that's back to normal now.)

Extreme Memory Profile (XMP): enabled
Sets it to 15-15-15-35 1.350V (Same as the Gskill website, correction on previous post.)
DRAM Frequency: DDR4-3200 (24x100.00x1.33) (Tried with SPD speed of DDR4-2133 (16x100.00x1.33), too.)
Memory Try it !: DDR4-3200 CL14
DRAM Timing mode: Link
And then the same settings: CM 2, then 15-15-15-35

Setting XMP enabled, but the rest on auto, doesn't seem to work.

Another update. Downloaded CPU-Z, and it does seem to see 64GB, even see's 4 slots filled. But on slot one, it doesn't have a Manufacturer or Part number, while the other three do. Could there be a deffect in it still? It does recognize module size and max. bandwith.

Best, Maarten

Had 1 of a pair of 4GB G.SKILL sticks that I bought a year ago for my 2011 board, sticks manufactured Dec 2016, suddenly go bad on me, while my 2011 sticks are still functioning.  No manual memory overclocking.  RMA'd and came back fairly quick. (Acceptance of my request email went to my spam though.)  Replacements seem to be working fine.  I've forgotten to look at the manufacturing date though, but I did notice that there is another number, in addition to the serial number on the sticker now, that wasn't on my 2016 or 2011 sticks.  This does seem to me like a new set (and that they aren't messing with me), but I don't feel like taking them out and looking at the manufacture date.

So far so good.  Just odd that it was just 1 stick that went bad after 1 year, while my 6+ year old sticks are fine.  At least it wasn't a slot that went bad.

Folks,
I just assembled a new system with a MSI motherboard and GSkill memory. Specs below
MSI Tomahawk AC Motherboard
GSKILL TridentZ DDR4 memory model F4-3200C16Q-32GTZB - 4 channel kit 4 x 8GB
SAMSUNG M.2 SSD
MSI Radeon RX570 Video card

The issue i am having is that when the memory is placed into the 4 channel configuration it sees all the memory sticks in the bios but reports only 24GB usable. - uses slots a1,b1,c1,d1,
I moved the memory around to the different slots and no luck then i changed the configuration to the 2 channel configuration to test the memory and the board sees all the memory sticks and registers the full 32GB.  uses slots c1,c2,d1,d2
I have updated the Bios to the latest version
Changed the memory configuration from auto to manual and set the correct speed at 3200mhz and it populates the timings and voltage and they are at 16-18-18-38 and it shows 1.35v
I have clear the CMOS completely and still no luck.
Can anyone think of anything i have missed that i could look at to see if i can resolve the issue.

If any other information is required please let me know
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

My setup:
X79A-GD65 8D (Bios v1.8)
i7-3930k
Gskillz 4x 4GB (F3-12800CL8Q-16GBZH)

The story:
Oh man, it's a long story. I'll try to keep this short. Back in 2011/2012, I had issues with this board because I initially had a i7-3820. Eventually was able to get the BIOS to a version needed for the chip. Also had some PSU issues. Fast forward to about 2015 or early 2016 - I was doing a 'maintenance day', and updated just about everything that I could on my system (drivers, etc). Also went to flash bios, and boom - bricked. Lucky that the board has a dual-bios. However, 2nd bios never was updated. Had to RMA board to MSI. Tried to see if they could fix BIOS #1, but that was basically a "nope". So they flashed BIOS #2 to v1.8. When I got the board back I also upgraded my CPU to the I7-3930k. Everything posted - except for the memory. At the time (and I didn't have a lot of time to mess around with it) I could only get the system to post with 1 dimm. About a week ago, I started using the system more frequently and 4GB just doesn't cut it. So again, went into maintenance mode and started getting a number of things checked off from my to-do list. The above post seems to have done some help, but I'm still coming up a bit short.

The issue:
At time of writing, I have 3 of the 4 dimms installed - giving me 12GB: currently seated in slots 1, 5, and 7. If I add the fourth dimm to slot 3 and power on, I get a debug code of b7 or it could be a 67. I've seen on this forum among other places that this appears to be related to a mem training issue. Should be noted that when I had the 3820 installed, I was able to get 16GB. I may have changed some BIOS back then (again, 2012-ish) to get that to work, but I honestly can't remember. Ultimately would love to be running at 16GB. I've swapped the dimms around to make sure I didn't have a bad stick; and as far as I can tell - I don't. Oddly, the way I got 12GB to work was as follows:

Installed to:
Slots 1 and 3 - result b7
Slots 1 and 5 - posted
Slots 1 and 7 - posted
Slots 1, 5, and 7 - posted
Slots 1, 3, 5, 7 - b7
... started getting creative
1, 2, 3, 4 - b0 / 60
1, 5, 6, 7 - b0 / 60
...
eventually was just ok with running on 12GB until I find a solid fix.

Using this post, I did change the values as described in the OC Settings. I actually dropped my numbers down to 8, 8, 8, 24 - which seems to be running just fine. I've also gone back and forth between enabling XMP - but doesn't appear to have an effect.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. As you can imagine, I'm a bit hesitant to flash bios again... otherwise I'd be completely out of a board

[Edit: I also noticed that the voltage was just under 1.5 for both channels a and b. I believe I've manually set these for all DDR channels to 1.55... now I can't remember if my 12GB was able to post before making that change or not]
