@Chike, thank you, this was a good suggestion, I also found references to this in some OC forums.

But unfortunately it did not work out... Also tried several other configurations in safe limits.

Any more pointers are much appreciated... Not only 6GB RAM is lost, but it works 2 way now...

triple channel 12GB with one kit doesn't work?
2 modules in slot 1 and 2?
A single module will not work in slot 1 or 2?
At what speed the is memory running?

What is the default QPI voltage, how high did you try?

I tried the following with bot 3*2GB set and 3*4GB set:
* Putting single RAM on slot 1 or 2 => No boot (beeps only, tried with different RAM's)
* Putting single RAM on slot 5 => OK (I only used DIMM5 socket and tested all RAM's there)
* Putting 2 identical RAM's in slots 3-5 or 4-6 works and shows correct amount
* Putting 3 RAMs in 1-3-5 or 2-4-6 slots: Behaves same as the previous, with 2GB RAMs 4GB is working, with 4GB RAMs 8GB is working => Thus I concluded there is a problem with the channel 1

Memory runs at stock speed (1066 MHz?). No overclock, no Extreme Profile. But it is shown on the BIOS that it is 8-8-8-19. But I already tried 9-9-9-24 manually with no success.

I'll check the BIOS readings and edit this post when my rendering is over :)

BUT:
The setup worked for 1 1/2 years without any problems until now.
There is no recent HW change (just upgraded to a better case a couple of mo?nths ago for better ventilation).
Thus I suspect a malfunction, not a misconfiguration or similar... What do you think?

Cheers

Looks like hardware issue to me, channel A is busted for some reason, either motherboard or CPU, most likely the first.
You could take out the COU and inspect both the socket pins and CPU contacts, see if there is anything suspicions like bent/burnt pins or signs of burn on the contacts, clean CPU contacts with high purity alcohol, (isopropyl % > 98 if you can find) and non-residual cloth, but I would put high expectation in it.
All with extra caution not to break what is still functioning.

Also inspect the board/capacitors/other components that lead to the memory slots.
Old board, how is it only 1 1/2 years?

Nope, I had the rig up and running with 6 GB RAM in 2011. 1 1/2 years ago I added more RAM.

I'll do the HW inspections as soon as possible, I have had bad experience with CPU pins before :/

Thank you for your support, it is much appreciated :)

upon further playing there is no place in xmp for  3000
if you use memory try it  you have three name choices and tons of choices after that., to bad you dont know if micron made it or not.
memory reads at 15 15 15 35  not 15 16 16 35 but voltage says 1.35.
running at 2400 mhz instead of 3000. but not stable
any suggestion  these machines are not OC  at all.

This memory has only one board on it's QVL, like it was tailored just for it only.

Suggestion: get it replaced with one that your board is on it's QVL

A 4x8GB kit would be better than 8x4GB

Or you can try to manually tweak your memory if you know how, or open a new thread.

thank you for that reply
so have newegg rma for the  4x8 32 gig.
Just make sure it's a compatible one.
In the G.Skill list 2800 CL 15 looks like the best they have for 32GB.

in xmp  on this mb it does not list 2800 or 3000  so i lose 50.00 to rma to newegg
so i wonder if 2400
F4-2400c15Q-32GRB would be the safest bet since the corsair is 2400 that i was replacing

In OC memory support there are many 2800 and 3000 kits listed.
The memory will run at default 2133, you can after try XMP and set frequency and main timings manually if it does not run at 2800.
Reviews on Newegg say it can do even 3000 with some extra voltage.

This forum is for MSI products support, not general and not Gigabyte support.

Hi i desperately need some help and this looks like the place.

System specs:
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 : Bios V2.9
Intel i7-4790K (4.0)
G.Skill Trident X 2x8 F3-2400C10D-16GTX
MSI GTX970 Gaming 4GB
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
WD Caviar Green 750GB
WD Caviar Green 1TB
Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1)

Have been getting multiple problems with BSOD's, freezes, lockups, you name it. Decided to run Memtest86+ and 1 module came up with 67000+ errors:shocked_anim:
2nd module was all clear, Cleaned contacts on 1st module with Electrical Contact Cleaner and cotton bud (Qtip), retested and zero errors:biggthumbsup:
Retested both modules in both slots ( as per instructions this thread ) and all good, zero errors. Have tried running both manual timings for this ram as specified on the ram and in XMP
Profile 1 & 2 and still the same problems, nothing seems to work. So where do i go from here?

Randomly had random black screen reboots for no apparent reason, could be hours or days until once happened.
Applied the fix and hoping that this fixes it.

Hi,

I am using G.Skill RAM and definitely having issues. When gaming under heavy load, my build will occasionally lock up. No black screen, no BSOD, no crash to desktop, it just hangs there on a single frame with the audio looping ad infinitum until I hit the reboot button.

Here's my specs:

CPUIntel i7-5820k
CPU CoolerMSI Dragon Liquid Cooler
MotherboardMSI X99S Gaming 7 ATX LGA2011-3
RAM4x 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-2400
Storage512GB Crucial MX100 SSD & 2TB Seagate SSHD
GPUMSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G
PSUCorsair RM 750W 80+ Gold Modular ATX
OSWindows 10 Home 64bit
WiFi AdapterAsus PCE-AC56 PCIe

My build originally had a Zotac GTX 980 Ti, but I RMA'd it (twice) believing it to be the cause of my issue. The third time I exchanged it for the MSI card hoping that there would be better compatibility with the same brand. Recently I've started to suspect the RAM as enabling XMP made a notable improvement to stability, but as it turns out, nothing I've tried has cured the problem completely. If I reduce the graphics settings of my games however, it does become less likely to occur. Kind of defeats the point of having powerful hardware though.

I've checked the temperatures and voltages many times and everything looks fine - CPU idles at 35, while gaming it's typically no higher than 55. The GPU never gets higher than 75.

At this point I'm at the end of my tether, but I'm going to try changing some of the settings recommended in this thread.

Ok so since last week I've been running my RAM at 1600 and not one single crash. I'm happy about that, but obviously I'd prefer to have the RAM running at 2400 as advertised.

So what happens now? Do I RMA the RAM, or the motherboard, or what? Are G.Skill or MSI doing anything about this issue? Is this issue specific to MSI boards and G.Skill memory?

Hello,
admittedly, I didn't read every post in this thread. I have been researching a problem seemingly forever, spending whole weekends on it sometimes. I am sick of reading lol. First the setup:
MB: MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming
CPU: Intel i7-4770K
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600
I am wondering if memory settings would prevent, intermittently, the system from booting at all. When this happens I get no POST LED lights on the board (they don't light up) and no video. I have not set timings, etc for RAM in BIOS, so running on defaults. I cant tell you right now what they are, but just wondered if memory can have this effect.
Thank you.
