Good afternoon everyone,

as title says, I am encountering a problem with 140W PD 3.1 charging.
Basically the laptop charges until 100% then the power disconnects, the laptop charges no more and of course if I dont notice, it gets the machine completely run only on battery.

If I disconnect and reconnect te laptop in a range 90%-100% it just charges for a second then disconnects again.

I tried with both 140W and 200W UGREEN Nexode wall adapters and multiple 240W cables, problem persists, and it's only happening in the 140W output port (which is the one i would like to use since this laptop goes up to 140W in PD 3.1). Funny thing is that if I plug the TypeC in a 100W max port on both chargers, the power doesn't cut and when it reaches 100% it just stays charging.

I am on latest version of BIOS, Firmware, VBIOS and everything -- Battery optimization on MSI Center are set on "Charge always unitl 100%"

Any ideas on what could cause the issue?

Thanks a lot

Laptop will not charge to 100%, if it is in 90-99% charge range. It is normal. Something about battery protection.
Try to discharge it to 89%, then connect charger. Laptop should charge then to 100%.

Hi, the laptop it's being charged correctly until 100% and keeps the charge when connected on 100W typeC port in my charger... problem is happening only when connected to 140W port...
I thought to a "protection" as well but if it was designed like this shoudn't it apply to every wattage when charging the battery via typeC?
Thanks for the reply

Do you encounter this problem every time using the 140W or above PD charger?
Even when using the PD charger, it should keep the battery level 100% after being fully charged. Unless you are running some heavy-load applications.
The "protection" is that once the battery reaches 100%, if the adapter is reconnected while the battery level is between 90 to 100%, the system will supply power directly to the laptop without charging the battery.

I encounter this problem when charging via PD everytime that i connect the PD port 140W.
On the same adapter, if I charge the laptop on 100W port the battery stays 100% when fully charged: this doesn't happen with 140W port.
If the laptop needs to charge it stays connected until 100% and when reached just cuts the power, while the behavior should be the same as the 100W port.
I tried with 2 different wall chargers and 3 different cables, all 240W capacity.
Thank you

400W is too high a voltage.
We recommend 140W to 200W.
The current may be temporarily interrupted
due to the excessive voltage.

Hi, the problem is happening even if the laptop is the only device charging; the max wattage of the adapter is 200W.

me sometimes will encounter the situation that the laptop stop charging around 90~100%, no matter it's charged by PD adapter or regular adapter. I thought it's the built-in protection for battery?

Hi, yes that happens to me too even if I am plugged on original charger, but the Battery charging icon stays "green" in charging state and the battery doesn't decrease.

In this specific condition the laptop disconnects the charge (so the laptop goes back to battery mode) and starts draining battery like it wasn't even connected to charger.
