VIGOR GK71 SONIC – RED firmware update loop in MSI Center

Hi guys,

I’m running into an issue with my VIGOR GK71 SONIC – RED keyboard and MSI Center, and I’m kind of stuck in a firmware update loop.

What’s happening:
In MSI Center → Features → Gaming Gear, I’m prompted to update the keyboard firmware.
The update appears to install successfully, but after that nothing changes.
When I go back to Gaming Gear, MSI Center asks for the same update again.
Because of this, I can’t access the keyboard settings at all – it always redirects me to the update screen.

What I’ve tried:
Live Update in MSI Center
Driver: Device FW Update (GK71 Sonic) v1.01.04
After installing it, Windows just restarts, but the problem remains.
Multiple restarts and reconnecting the keyboard.

Current state of the keyboard:
Not completely dead – typing works fine.
RGB backlight does not work.
Keyboard settings in Gaming Gear are inaccessible.

System info:
MSI Center: 2.0.65.0
Laptop: MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG
OS: Windows 11 (fully updated)

I have tried restarting the system multiple times and reconnecting the keyboard, but the issue persists.
Since I have received helpful support on this forum in the past, I would greatly appreciate any guidance, workaround, or confirmation whether this is a known firmware/MSI Center issue. 🙏

Same here. The keyboard is detected as gaming gear (with inevitable prompt to update firmware), but cannot be found at mystic light anymore. I tried the same as OP and on top deinstalled MSI Center completely before reinstalling it. Nothing did help so far.

Have you tried to reset the keyboard by pressing the FN key (Dragon key) + ESC?

Hi, I have the same problem.

MSI Center told me that there was new firmware available, so I installed it. Since then, nothing on my keyboard works except for the keyboard itself (the backlight, fn key, and media keys don't work), and MSI Center keeps telling me that there is a firmware update available.

Check PM as well.

VIGOR GK71 SONIC not available in Mystic Light. Knowing that the MSI Center updated with the latest version 2.0.65.0.
Only my NVIDIA MSI GPU show up.

Just wondering if firmware could be corrupted, if you can get into Gaming Gear, then likely firmware is not the problem.

Update about Mystic Light cannot recognize GK71:
The issue should be fixed tomorrow with updated online Db,
simple reboot your PC tomorrow and the issue should be solved.
