Wanted to replace the original MSI fan?

I wanted to replace it with this Thermaltake GF4... Only thing is, I dont know the best way to release the push pins from the fan thats already on the card. I dont want to damage the card. Whats a good method? I have tried squeezing the pins from the other side of the card trying to make them contract so that the springs would pop up and the fan would release, but to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

some have wedge like bits to spread the pins you have to pull out first,then the pins will contract

also some are stuck on as well,people wrap them in plastic and freeze in freezer to break the glue

How would I know if it is stuck on or not... I really dont think they are stuck on becuase the pin can turn. So its moving... the thing is just not contracting. I think you are right about the wedge thing. Because there is a flat push pin head, but then there is something that looks like a little knob thats on top of the flat head... maybe thats why it wont contract.

pull that out i thinks the way to go

then see if fans loose,but im sure it will have adhesive tape or thermal glue as well,or it would move now no?link

I got the Thermaltake GF4 Cooler too, installation is a snap.. just use pliers to crimp the plastic pins (from the bottom of the card, and then push them out the top.
THe heatsink should come out really easily.. I recommend you get some Artic Silver 3 and spread a paper thin layer on the GPU (also rub a little into the bottom of the heatsink that's gonna touch, so it absorbs some of the AS3...

Make sure you get the right heatsinks on the right memchips.. the guide makes it pretty self-explanatory...

A bit of a friendly warning. The capacitors which is usually found on graphics cards as well as other addon cards contains a liquid substance (i do not know its english name). If you put the card in the freezer this liquid will freeze and you might destroy the capacitor.
If you can not find any capacitors on the graphics card like those that you can find on the motherboad (they are the type i mean), then it should not pose so much of a problem. However, freezing electronics are almost never a good idea. Even the PCB and soldering points is sensitive to cold (if it gets below 0C).

Good Point, Arioch.. DON'T PUT IT IN YOUR FREEZER.
Play a game that gets it nice and warm (should only take a few minutes), then crimp (kinda crush) the pegs.. what i did them was put the card upside down and lightly push down on the pegs (watching to make sure not to damage anything on the card) and they popped out really easy...

I absolutely dont know how to thank you and everybody esle.... the guide is perfect. One last thing though... I have heard from reviews that this card is bad at overclocking. Is this fan the key to overclocking with out messing up the card... or is the card just out of luck for overclocking no matter what.

Okay fellaz... I followed the steps from the link and everything went smoothly... I just have one more question now, well in addition to the one above in my last post... While I was applying the thermal tape to one of my tall ramsinks, I messed up the thermal tape and it wont stick properly so now I must get some more thermal tape. Now, the other three ramsinks are secure and they are on.... will they be alright? What I mean is, can i have the other three on and be missing the fourth one for a few days and nothing messes up. Do they all have to be on? Is it safe? This might be a dumb question, but I'm just trying to be sure.

hey Shoji... Yeah i kinda messed up the thermal tape on one side of one of the heatsinks (the bridge shaped ones) and i just kinda stretched it out and made it as flat as possible and got it on there.. I doubt you'll run into any issues not having all 4 on there at once... i think the fan works great, my case temp dropped cause the heat from the gpu is being sucked out the exhaust now...


Good Luck! so far i've got my card clocked to 300/650 (the same clock settings as a ti4600) and it's working.. so it's looking like i got a ti4600 for the ti4400 price! :)

btw.. where can you find double sided thermal tape?? if i can find it easily, i'll get some and make sure mine it 100%..

Dawg, I really dont know where to get the thermal tape from. I was gonna go around to various computer stores and find out if they had any. Tell me one thing though. I see you clocked to 300/650... What does that mean exactly? How can I find out what mine is currently clocked at also?
