Hello everyone,

Just to inform you, I tried updating the BIOS today (01/22/25) using the following link:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support

Version: 7E51v1A24

I updated the BIOS without any particular issues, but after the reboot, the PC kept restarting in a loop (without displaying anything on the screen!).

I tried clearing the CMOS = no result.

I also tried re-downloading the BIOS and using the button on the back of the motherboard = no result.

I started to panic a little, so I reverted to the BIOS version from 01/02/25 (7E51v1A2), reflashed it using the button on the back of the motherboard, and the PC booted up normally!

Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Thanks.

Turns out disabling "usb legacy" seemingly worked at first but it started occuring again with Od on boot loop unable to get into bios / post with or without any usb devices and even if bios was cleared via button on rear panel.
Curretnly reflashing back to previous bios... :(

I flashed back to A21. The boot loop occurred again but even with every cable except power cord disconnected. It was scary, but I got lucky after a few minutes of boot loop and could get into BIOS. I always keep previous BIOS version flash file on USB stick, so that was one less worry.

I Just got this board, it has a BIOS from E7E51AMSI.1A10 8/14/2024. I tried flashing the 7E51v1A2 today and it said Error! This BIOS is not a MSI BiOS update will ignore!!

Error Code: 100000001 something

Do I have to leap frog Bios update after Bios update or can I go straight to the most recent known good?

The only thing I see right now with it is that it Sees my Coursair Vengance Ram as 4800 M/T rather than 6400 MT. This is annoying thinking that performance will be hampered.
It should actually be listed in the release notes if a specific version is required for the update. Even if MSI always keeps the release notes very concise and does not include everything.

E7E51, i.e. the first characters in the file name, is the product code for the MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI. In the meantime, however, there is also the MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI with 7E59. Do you possibly have this?

Otherwise, the only remaining possibility is that your file is incorrect/incomplete.

Same thing is happening to me. I just updated my msi mpg x870e carbon and it reboot maybe 20 times before finally loading to window. Restarted computer just now and same thing. Boot endlessly about 15-20 times before finally booting in window. RGB would turn off for a few seconds, fan would start up for a few seconds and then turn off and on multiple times before working .

I just upgraded my system to a X870 Tomahawk and 9800x3D. It came with the latest BIOS (7E51v1A24) installed
Initially all was fine . But after a day or 2 , while booting up it got stuck in a boot up loop. Watching the LED codes on the motherboard ; After the code 9C , the yellow DRAM LED light came on. and then back into reboot
the culprit was one of my powered USB hubs! After disconnecting my USB hubs during boot up, no more boot problems.
I never had this with my previous system ( gigabyte Aorus Elite X570 + 5800x3D + 2 powered USB hubs )
I might try to install a previous BIOS version

For me, with the A24 BIOS installed, the only way to boot correctly is to unplug all USB devices, turn on the computer and once in Windows plug everything back in.

Might not be related specifically to USB hubs but possibly other affected peripherals such as specific models of keyboards, mice, rgb controllers, etc.. which would explain the variance between issues experienced with this last bios.
Kinda troubling to think it's being preloaded on newly shipped boards, this has the potential to cause a lot of false positive rma / retail returns.

What is clear to me is that if MSi doesn't fix these problems with the next BIOS update I'll change the motherboard for an AORUS, the previous model didn't give me any problem at all in all the time I had it and they released a lot of updates. I'm tired of wasting my time on this kind of stuff.

I have a 9800x3d and a x870 tomahawk with the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 2x32GB DDR5 6000 CL30 (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N)
I was using it without a GPU for like 3 weeks and all was working fine with EXPO enabled.

Yesterday i received my 5090 FE and i installed it... To my surprise windows was so laggy and freezing... Also so hard to boot.
In that moment i had the BIOS (7E51v1A2) and i tested a Clear CMOS... new windows, new drivers, fresh install but windows was so laggy and always freezing.
Today i installed the new BIOS (7E51v1A24) and now it works and windows works fine... But i cant enable the EXPO profile anymore.
In the A2 Bios i was running 6000 cl30 EXPO mode but now when i turn on EXPO mode in the bios it will not post again until i make a clear cmos...

For me updating the A24 didnt make infinite boot loop... but now if i turn on EXPO for the RAM... it will not post and LEDS will turn on for CPU and RAM... then i clear CMOS and it will turn on again but with the ram at 4800.

i have an older bios version installed (1a1a). this also has usb problems. if some usb device locks its port, all usb ports stop working and do not come back until a hard restart or shutdown.

I had to updated. Second Dashboard to fail. Now I am in a boot loop where I can't even enter BIOS. Any advice welcomed!

It won't boot to windows. I'm in a loop of BIOS starts but I can't even get into BIOS. I've tried Cmos clear. I've tried the BIOS button. I have a drive inserted for a version of BIOS. It won't do anything. It's the x870 MegGodlike.

Second time I cleared CMOS it boot looped twice and I put my head down, literally, just like didn't even care was just going to let it loop, got the courage to look up... I'm in BIOS!

Same freaking thing though now. I turned RAID mode on reboot. Back in boot loop. Unless I can get RAID on I can't get into Windows.

BIOS is working fine here, it actually allowed me to run 128Gb of ram at 5600Mt/s, previous versions would simply end up with an A6 error, I hope that eventually they will produce a version that will allow 128 @ 6000 Mt/s but Ill take what I can get.

Ram was 4 modules of
G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30
SKU: F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR

Have put them through tests and yup works just fine, I will say this, AVOID Corsair - CMK64GX5M2B6000Z30 modules I still cant get EXPO to work on them and trying to do so just gets that A6 error.

All the BIOSes for the x870 and x870E MSI boards seem to have some significant issues with RAM stability. Don't use XMP/EXPO, set the efficiency mode on with Auto set for memory timing speed, then Memory Try It to match your RAM's XMP listed timings. Start it at 6000.
I am currently using a set of CMP64GX5M2B6400C32 modules and they're rock stable when I've manually set the timings. Start with the XMP setting to get the voltages/etc for those RAM, then use the Memory Try It settings that match. Enable Memory Context Restore. Go into the Memory Overclocking advanced settings and enable "memory power-down" mode.
If that boots fine, you may be able to tighten up some of the timings or voltages. especially the SoC (I had to bring mine down from 1.3 to 1.28 or so, I forget specifically) and brought my RAM voltages down to 1.34 from the 1.4 the XMP was setting. Turn off PBO/undervolting on the CPU for now.

Hey. How you have set to 5600? Memory try it! ? I have the same RAM but 64GB and EXPO to 6000 isnt working on A24 last bios. Thank you.
Right now i am running default 4800... I need to enable EXPO1 and then set 5600 and that it is? Not touching Volts or nothing? Sorry i am new in this.
@citay
Expo failed to post so i dont know what to try. For 5600 CL30 i need to enable EXPO and then only change the speed to 5600 and save? Same Volts and all like EXPO set?
