Hello everyone,

Just to inform you, I tried updating the BIOS today (01/22/25) using the following link:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support

Version: 7E51v1A24

I updated the BIOS without any particular issues, but after the reboot, the PC kept restarting in a loop (without displaying anything on the screen!).

I tried clearing the CMOS = no result.

I also tried re-downloading the BIOS and using the button on the back of the motherboard = no result.

I started to panic a little, so I reverted to the BIOS version from 01/02/25 (7E51v1A2), reflashed it using the button on the back of the motherboard, and the PC booted up normally!

Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Thanks.

Hey. How you have set to 5600? Memory try it! ? I have the same RAM but 64GB and EXPO to 6000 isnt working on A24 last bios. Thank you.
Right now i am running default 4800... I need to enable EXPO1 and then set 5600 and that it is? Not touching Volts or nothing? Sorry i am new in this.
@citay
Expo failed to post so i dont know what to try. For 5600 CL30 i need to enable EXPO and then only change the speed to 5600 and save? Same Volts and all like EXPO set?
Yes memory Try it, it has two 5600 settings one with an asterix and one without I just used the one without, it booted right up. I didnt touch any other settings for the memory, leave it on normal, just use the memory try it.
Mine also doesn't work at 6000 EXPO.

BIOS is working fine here, it actually allowed me to run 128Gb of ram at 5600Mt/s, previous versions would simply end up with an A6 error, I hope that eventually they will produce a version that will allow 128 @ 6000 Mt/s but Ill take what I can get.

Ram was 4 modules of
G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30
SKU: F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR

Have put them through tests and yup works just fine, I will say this, AVOID Corsair - CMK64GX5M2B6000Z30 modules I still cant get EXPO to work on them and trying to do so just gets that A6 error.
The issues with the last bios aren't limited Corsair ram exclusively, I'm running Hynix A Die Gskill 6000 CL30 2x16 2R sticks and it happened after a few reboots. It's intermittent and could be multiple bugs at once.. only can speculate at the moment.

The A24 BIOS seems to be a mess, just built my system on the board with a 9800X3D and a RTX5080, board didn't recognize most USB ports from the start and had alot of difficulty before could even get Windows running. Updated to the newest bios and got a boot loop, reverted to the previous BIOS version A2 from early January and updated the chipset drivers as suggested and for now everything seems to be running ok. Didn't have time to do any real testing yet yesterday but I hope they get a proper working bios version out soon for the 9000 series.

Thank you. I will try today to test the memory try it on 5600 since enabling 6000 EXPO will not boot until i do a Clear CMOS.
I have the same RAM as you but the non RGB. 6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N 2x32GB 6000 CL30. Now running default 4800 CL40.

If memory try it doesnt work it will boot again with the previous settings? I dont want more Clear CMOS or maybe it will never POST again :(
Thank you.

So what speed ar you running in your RAMs? You cant enable EXPO neither??

Did your 5080 work with the BIOS 7E51v1A2?? I had installed the A2 bios and when i installed my 5090 windows was so laggy and all was working like shi...t
Now with the 7E51v1A24 my 5090 works perfect with W11 but we have the problem of the EXPO not working...

In the last BIOS they say:
Optimized the memory compatibility of single rank (1R) under 2DPC configuration.
- Optimized the memory compatibility of dual rank (2R) under 1DPC configuration.

And i think they messed up in something with the RAMs EXPO etc.

Chiming in to say I got the same boot loop issue with 1A24. Tomahawk X870, 9800x3d, 4080 Super, Corsair 2x16 GB 6400. For me it wouldn't even make it to the BIOS screen, it would briefly show the boot screen (flashing cursor) before immediately restarting. Once I did get it to boot into Windows and I had the same unusable lag some others have described. After a few hard resets I was able to get it to boot back into the BIOS and get into M-Flash to roll back to 1A1A. I do use a powered USB hub as well as the hubs built into my monitors, but I only found out about that aspect after I had already reverted back to 1A1A so I didn't get to test without them.

Are we thinking this BIOS is just scuffed and we need to wait for the next one? Or is there some kind of workaround? I'm holding off on installing the new AMD chipset drivers as well until the BIOS situation gets figured out.

EDIT: I did not get a consistent debug code on the motherboard when this was happening. It would rapidly change between different codes.

Ram ran fine at first using the same settings as the last version using the expo profile.
It gets into bios after a few reboots after flashing from the last version and I can set everything as before but after a few reboots or poweroffs it seems to corrupt itself somehow... even resetting cmos after having the boot loop issue does not fix the issue or ever make it back to bios with all usb devices unplugged (or it would take more than 4-5 failed cycles and I couldn't bother to wait longer)

I think we're seeing multiple bugs at the same time, memory training seems to be borked intermittently or after many failed attempts and specific USB devices like hubs or hdds seem to cause the bios to not initialize correctly in some instances, but again not always.

I rolled back to the bios just before 7E51v1A24 for the moment, but I have a day or two left with my return window so I am seriously thinking of returning this X870 Tomahawk and get something from another brand that has less variability with reported issues.

This was my first MSI board coming from Asus / Gigabyte, and considering the asking price I'd expect a bit more polish coming from a bios release.

I understand bugs are common with this new platform so should be expected but how it's still listed for download and not flagged as beta is surprising. If these boards had no flashback they'd be practically bricked.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem and have to revert to 7E51v1A2 via usb flash button. Very frustrating exprience with 7E51v1A24 BIOS, very slow to boot, I had some huntch that it was usb related, but wasn't sure. It was booting normally until I clicked "Auto oveclock" in AMD Drivers, after that constant reboots, cannot even enter into bios.
