Just a heads up...I should of checked here 1st I guess as I see it happening on the Tomahawk too......

Happen to me yesterday going from V16>V17 via M-Flash

RMA is the only fix I have been told - 2-4 week wait - not possible , it is my new CAD Workstation.....

I have reported it and spoken to TS , but the Bios is still up on the support page.....

Does M-Flash go through 100%? or does it stop at middle?
I don't get wut you mean by RAM is the only fix. If you didn't enable XMP, most likely it should run at 2133Mhz without any problem.
What debug LED you stuck at? Also, can you list system configuration details. Don't think it's ram related myself.

RMA not RAM the boards do not have Flashback this will be the 5th or 6th so far in the last week this has bricked there motherboard with the bios update and all with different update methods. Been mention of Dragon Center the New MSI replacement and M-Flash all brickin Intel Z490 boards.

very disappointing that a motherboard does not have flash back feature
my z490 is a brick and there is no way to fix it so far. it's the time to change. I Will go back to ASUS again.
Well...some MSI Z490 boards do have flashback feature. And note that not all ASUS Z490 boards have flashback feature.
Maybe pay attention to the motherboard spec next time?
Cheers.

The specifications but most buy because it has pretty flashing lights not for the specifications or features.

Hi guys. Same here. I tried to update to 1.7 last night, using MSI Dragon and... You know the rest. Now, the CPU debug LED is stuck on.
Does anybody knows if there is a programming port on this board ? I have access to all sorts of chip programming hardware at work.
Let's hope MSI's support guys are efficient ! I'll probably have to request an RMA numer for this. My nest board WILL have a rollback feature !

Intel i5 10600k

I updated successfully few days ago to v17 my MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge Wifi.

I just came here because I experimented several BSOD from this bios update when the system is heavy loaded, like Horizon Zero Dawn computing new shaders or decompressing some big files with 7zip.

I had to reset my bios setting and remove my really light OC for my i7-10700K.

Same exact settings with Bios v16 was fine...

I think MSI have learned already too, because all their Z590 ATX boards have a Flash BIOS Button (+ corresponding USB port) on the back, where you can "force-flash" the BIOS in case of problems.
This is a completely different situation from Z490, where only the MSI MEG Z490 Unify and the MSI MEG Z490 ACE had that button. I guess they rather add the button everywhere now, instead of dealing with RMAs of bricked boards when something goes wrong.

I see a beta bios for my MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge Wifi called E7C79IMS.173 and posted on google drive April 21. It's not clear to me if it's more recent, like the name suggest, than the official one E7C79IMS.170 which appeared later on April 26 on the website... It's confusing...

Edit : my pretty old previous MB Asus P8Z77-v from 2012 had a specific USB port where you can plug a USB stick with a bios and it will automatically flash it if detected. MSI should at least provide such solution...

Same problem here with Z490 Gaming Plus after latest BIOS update. EZ debug CPU led always on, black screen and no boot what so ever! Told me to RMA, with a 2 months delay

Hi, I feel sorry for you, but this is not the same problem. My MB work fine after been flashed, it just don't accept my previous OC, and I need to fine tune it again to find the right balance.

We have another thread talking about bricked MB after this bios update, so I suggest to post in this other thread instead... Good luck!

Warning : V17 bios for Z490 Gaming Edge Wifi release Monday may brick your board.
i think you are in the wrong threat my friend
Greetings

Oh man you're so right! Shame on me. I went directly from my email client to here and wrongly thought I was in the other thread I created. In fact, it's me who wasn't in the good thread from my first post here. My bad!

Nichrome, I see more and more people complaining about the same problem in BIOS update for Z490 motherboards. I contacted MSI and they told me to send back the mobo for RMA.
But the thing is, when i asked them, i didn't got an official answer about the latest -faulty- BIOS update that bricks their mobos.
Can we get an official MSI answer for what is going on here? Because all this are not a coincidence

For official answer you need to open a ticket with MSI.
I have also made my contacts aware, but what will happen next is up to them.
