PD charger connecting to MSI Summit E14 Flip Evo laptop
In the previous article, What can you charge with the stock MSI PD Charger?, walked through about how PD charging works and what it can charge.
This time we will test the voltage and current while charging various devices, let’s see how PD charger adapts its output power depending on the device which has been plugged in.
First, let’s recap the relationship between Voltage, Current, and power.
P(Power)=V(Voltage) * I(Current, Unit: Ampere)
Here’s a reference list of how much power is needed for the kind of device.

This time we use a MSI 90W Type-C PD Charger that comes with Prestige 14, which can output voltage from 5V to 20V

1. MSI Pen - 5V

MSI Pen also supports USB Type-C charging

By connecting a power measuring tool between the charger and the MSI Pen, the measuring tool shows 5 Volt, and the current shows 0.36A since MSI Pen has a tiny built-in battery, it won’t need to draw too much current at once.
2. Android phone - 9V

The Android phone ask 9V from PD charger. It draws 1.7A which is near 18W. Some of the Android phone on the market can even support up to 20V charging.
3. MSI Wireless Earphone - 5V

The MSI Wireless Earphone draws 5V from PD charger. The current is only 0.05 since it is fully charged.
4. Nintendo Switch – 9V

While the switch is on, the measuring tool shows it draws 9V and near 1.3A.
It will also draw 12V or 15V depending on the loading or on TV docking mode, these two voltage modes are also supported with MSI PD Charger.
5. MSI Summit E14 Flip Evo – 20V

The Summit E14 Flip Evo draws near 20V and 3.2A from the PD charger, that outputs about 65W which is the max rating of Summit E14 Flip Evo.
6. MSI Prestige 14

The MSI Prestige 14 draws near 20V and 4.1A, that is 80W power while running a stress test. There is still 10W capacity from the PD charger, which can be used to power other devices like mouse, portable storage through a Type-C USB HUB.
After these tests, you know how useful the PD charger is. More and more mobile devices will support PD charging function and all the charger you need to bring while traveling is the MSI PD Charger.
