If you've overclocked your system,
try disabling the overclock first.
If the issue persists, try reducing the GPU or CPU current
and see if that helps.

Please check if the power supply
is an authentic MSI 330W unit.
It seems like it might be a power supply issue.
Try replacing the power cable with a different one.

I swear I have exactly the same issue with exactly the same laptop (except mine has an RTX 5090) that's driving me mad every day. I'll never buy MSI again. I previously had an MSI GF63 Thin, which had Wi-Fi card issues and kept disconnecting constantly. I couldn’t play a single game, so I ended up giving it to my sister. I really hate myself for spending 6k euro for this MSI Raider A18 HX A9W, only to find out that it shuts down occasionally. It’s not temperature related, since it’s a brand new laptop (only a few months old), and the CPU temperature is around 65°C. GPU = ~45°C. I don't regularly play games, just League of Legends from time to time. I mostly use it for programming VS Code, JetBrains Rider (multiple instances for a microservice project), Teams, etc.

When I first bought it, it had serious performance issues while playing League of Legends and sharing my screen on discord (Yes, I'm not kidding, a 5090 laptop). A friend of mine told me he had an MSI laptop as well, and the way he fixed this is by switching from MSHybrid to Discrete mode.
That change fixed the performance issues, but now I believe the shutdown issues might be caused by Discrete mode. However, I’m not entirely sure, since I don't clearly remember whether it was already shutting down before that. It actually started shutting down when the laptop was only about a week old.

I updated BIOS, didn't change anything.

Yesterday, a friend found a post on reddit suggesting that running "powercfg /setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0" might solve the problem. It essentially sets the battery critical battery action (while plugged in) to "do nothing". I'll see how it goes, but again, this is a brand new RTX 5090 laptop that costs 6k euro, it's unacceptable!!!

Edit: forgot to add, this is from yesterday's shutdown:

@genetik79115a002e2 @warrolen I've heard that the Raider A18 HX A9W models might have a black screen issue under discrete graphics mode, as you both are setting.
If the problem only occurs in discrete graphics mode, you should contact the service center directly, there might be something that needs to be replaced or added to the motherboard.

Could you share a source for that? I haven’t seen anything official about a widespread issue like that. If it’s actually true, that’s pretty disappointing from MSI. Do you think it’s worth opening a ticket with MSI support to get it checked?

Of course, contact MSI support directly via the web ticket. They can help analyze the problem and check if you need to send it for repair.

@genetik79115a002e2 could you try running "powercfg /setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0"? So far, it’s been 2 days and I haven’t encountered the black screen issue, so this might be related to power delivery or the battery, which sets the battery critical battery action (while plugged in) to "Do nothing". I'm opening a MSI support ticket right now

Nevermind, it just did it again this morning.

What I mean by “the system shuts down” is that the screen just goes black, and I have to press and hold the power button for a few seconds to fully power it off. Then, when I turn it back on, it gets stuck on the MSI logo, so I have to press and hold the power button again to shut it down. After that, when I turn it on once more, it starts normally

When I described the symptoms to ChatGPT, it suggested that the issue was likely GPU related. That makes sense, because when I bought this laptop a few months ago, the GPU driver would keep restarting during daily standups in MS Teams while my colleagues were sharing their screens. I had the same issue with OBS if it was running on the NVIDIA card, it would cause the GPU driver to restart. I ended up forcing both MS Teams and OBS to run on the AMD Radeon integrated GPU instead.

You're not alone. I bought the vector 18 in February of 2026 RTX 5070 TI. Suddenly screen goes black, but the fans are still running and lights are still on. I've also had two shut downs. But for me this only happens when on "MSHybrid graphics mode". If I switch the gpu to "discrete graphics mode" +"extreme performance", all is well. That said, this problem makes the laptops ability to change gpu settings completely redundant. If I can't do something as simple as splitting the screen to watch youtube videos while scrolling through email on Hybrid graphics mode than whats the point of being able to change power settings? I tried using "Eco silent" exactly one time, the system lagged so badly that I never used it again. Considering you have to reboot everytime you change gpu settings, this power system is seriously flawed. I'm also going to take the time to mention the absolute [***CENSORED***] show that msi center is. There were amd chipset and driver updates available that Msi center would not download or install. I had to uninstall msi center and reinstall it before the drivers would download and install properly. Then msi center says, please upate your bios. I click on bios update and a message appears stating I should update bios through windows. I head over to windows and press optional updates and guess what? No bios update available. So, now furious, I hit up msi support. They send me an email with the bios update file. In the ridculously sloppy and poorly worded instructions it indicates I need a 32 gb flash drive formatted to fat32. Who has a usb2, 32 gb flash drive formatted to fat32 laying around? I have 10 flash drives, none of them could be reformatted. So, now I'm buying a flash drive to update a brand new $4000.00 pc, that msi shipped out with an old bios version. I bought the vector 18 to replace my msi raider when the hinges inexplicably broke after 3 years. Msi very quickly stepped up and fixed the laptop hinges for free. Of course, this was before I knew about the class action lawsuit. And if I had known about that lawsuit ahead of time, the Vector 18 would have stayed on the shelf at best buy. LIve and Learn, but I wont buy another one of their laptops. Pumping out gaming rigs every year is only a good idea if you're maintaining quality, the moment you lose sight of that very important goal, you lose peoples trust. And that's where I am today.
