What's the best way to power a 3-connector GPU with an MSI A1000G PCIE5 PSU?

Hey everyone,

I'm building a new PC and have run into a crucial question about powering my graphics card. I would appreciate your help in choosing the safest and most efficient method.

My Setup:

  • Graphics Card: Gigabyte RX 9070 XT AORUS ELITE (Requires 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors).
  • Power Supply: MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 (1000W).
The cables that came with the PSU:

  1. Two (2) traditional PCIe cables, each with a "pigtail" connector (i.e., each cable has two 8-pin outputs).
  2. One (1) adapter cable that connects to the PSU's 12VHPWR port and provides two (2) 8-pin PCIe outputs on the other end.
The Question:In MSI's own promotional material (as seen in the attached image), for a GPU that requires 3 connectors, they suggest using the cable from the 12VHPWR port (providing 2x8 pins) plus a traditional PCIe cable for the third connector.

My concern is that I've heard about issues and controversies surrounding the 12VHPWR connector. This makes me unsure about which connection would be the safest.

I basically have two options:

  • Option 1 (MSI's Recommendation): Use the adapter cable from the 12VHPWR port to power two of the GPU's connectors and use a separate PCIe cable for the third connector.
  • Option 2 (Using traditional cables): Ignore the 12VHPWR port and use the two PCIe pigtail cables. I would use one cable for a single GPU connector, and the second cable with its pigtail to power the other two connectors.
Which of these options is safer and more recommended in terms of stability and power delivery? Is the concern about the 12VHPWR cable from the PSU justified in this scenario?

do it the way they say and you will be fine.

remember that 2 8pins are 150w Each for 300w Total so its pulling Half the Power that the connector Likes to melt at
 
But what about the fact that the 12VHPWR port pulls 600W, wouldn't that be excessive exergy?

the 2x 8Pin to 12VHPWR connector is Pinned as 300W on its Side Band not 600w

a 12VHPWR has 4 Modes it can run it based on what Pins on the Side band are Occupied of the 4 Pins. 150w, 300w, 450w or 600w and the 2x 8pin PCI-E Cable is Panned as 300W so Half the MAX.
