Windows 11 not detecting drives. MAG z790 Tomahawk WiFi
I've got a Samsung 990 pro 1TB m.2 installed in the first m.2 slot. It is recognized in the BIOS (E7D91IMS.HE0). ACHI mode is enabled. Windows 11 Pro 24H2 64bit.
I've also installed a Crucial 500gb 2.5" SATA SSD, but get the same result. Anyone else have this problem? In the past the manufacturer would have a link to the driver to load at the beginning of the installation but there is not such file on the support page.

Any help is appreciated.

Nowadays you don't need drivers for those, Windows supports everything already. You just need to install the Chipset drivers and so on, see point 4) here.

Do you mean a Win11 that's already installed on another SSD? What you then need to do is initialize, partition, and quick-format the drives. Press WIN+R and run "diskmgmt.msc", and you can do everything from there, it will first offer to initialize them, then right-click on the free space to partition and quick-format (don't do a full format on an SSD).

This may be a motherboard issue then. We've already returned a non booting/faulty one. I've attached an image of what I see when trying to load windows 11 on a fresh/brand new m.2 drive.

Yeah, there's no drivers required. Now, as for the Win11 installation media, it's very important that you have the latest Win11 Media Creation Tool prepare the USB flash drive, as in point 3) of the post i linked before. Not from an ISO, and not preparing it on an Apple Mac. Otherwise you can end up with missing drivers like this.

What were the symptoms with the first board?

I downloaded the windows media creation tool and created a USB on a brand new USB drive. Same issue. Stuck at the "load driver" screen.
The issue I had with the other motherboard was DOA, no boot. I bought two identical systems. Swapped the motherboard into this case and didn't boot. easy to isolate the issue.

That's weird. There are no drivers necessary. I've installed Win11 numerous times on 600-/700-series boards. Maybe do a Clear CMOS and try again.

Weird. Well, ASUS have a help site on it, so it's common enough, even though i never had it happen before: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1044458/

The most common cause i have found is when people have created a bootable ISO via Mac or Linux, instead of letting the Media Creation Tool prepare the USB drive directly. Another cause would be the BIOS not actually being in UEFI mode, but normally, then the installer should complain right away, or not even boot itself. You used the F11 method for the boot menu, right? Have you tried different USB ports?

Very weird indeed. Yes to both your questions. Thank you for all your help! I really appreciate it. I'll try link you posted and let you know how it goes.
