ok here's the problem. i got a new Athlon 64 3000+, 512MB Geil PC-3200, Radeon 9800 Pro, got it all together and started to install windows. the first problem i have is once the post is over it says Setup is inspecting your configuration or whatever then sits at a black screen for about 2-3 minutes then finally get's to the partitioning program. then when that's all over the computer reboots and it's supposed to load the windows xp setup but it doesn't. it keeps booting from the cd instead of the hdd and goes right back into the partition setup. i am dying for help since i've been trying for two days now to get this thing running with no luck.

sounds like the CD is the first boot device. Try going into BIOS by pressing 'delete' whilst POST is happening and find the 'Boot-Up Sequence' goto this and press enter and make it so that your hard drive is the first device on the list, with the cd-rom the second.
you probably need to press enter on the top listed item and choose IDE-0 then goto the next one down and choose CD-ROM

if you do this and in the future you want to boot froma cd again, press F11 during post and it will give you a menu of devices to boot from.

this will also work as a workaround for youir current problem if you want cd-rom to remain as the primary boot-up device.

i tried moving the hdd to the top of the boot order but it will sit there searching for a boot record for a while then say Not Found and move on. i even took my main hdd out and put a single 40gb hdd in there and it still couldn't find the boot record.

make sure in the bios u have the ide drive above the cd drive .. or if using sata that is above the cd drive ... then boot the comp .. hit f11 .. when a screen comes up choose the cd drive .. let windows install run until it reboots .. then it should auto boot the hd ..

thats how ive always done it

i assume u DO partion the drive and create one .. and format it b4 win then installs files and reboots

if ur using the a sata drive the procedure is diff ..

Hi

sounds more basic than that, when at partioning screen the next one is format or install, did you see that. When XP reboots there should be a menu screen with a couple of options, just let PC do its thing.
it sounds like you have not formatted HDD, or else told XP where to insatll.

Cheers

Jocko
