MSI X299 TOMAHAWK is currently in use. I am upgrading my CPU to 10980XE.
On the product web page, it says that it supports 10980XE, but I'm curious to know if the CPU specification is exactly supported by the board.

When using 10980XE on this motherboard, will [pcie 48 lane support, 256GB Ram support, pcie 4way support] work?

On this page, it is stated that the 10980XE is supported when updating the firmware.
Has anyone actually updated the firmware on the X299 tomahawk and succeeded in configuring the above specifications?

Yes 48 lanes will be supported. However....

From the specification page :
  • 4 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots
    • Support x16/ x4*/ x16/ x8 mode with the 48/44-lane CPU.
    • Support x16/ x4*/ x8/ x4 modes with the 28-lane CPU.
    • Support x8/ x4*/ x8/ x0, x8/ x4*/ x4/ x4 modes with the 16-lane CPU.
  • 2 x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots
  1. *The PCI_E3 lanes are supported by PCH.
What this means is that the best you're going to get is x16 / x4 / x16 / x8 mode with the PCIe lanes. Simply because PCI_E3 is supported only by the PCH (the one that's x4). It can't be increased or changed really.

As far as the ram support, it should support 256GB. Again, the specification page makes that rather clear (going by the number of cores, etc....of the CPU. Since it's the highest end CPU, it should support all 8 DDR4 slots).
