Keep in mind that the source audio plays a part here.
If your source audio is only stereo, thats all you'll get out.
What are you playing?
How are you setting it up?
What speakers?
What ports are you using?

I'm playing 5.1 movies and games all dont work and still only plays stereo the main device settings only show stereo bitrates and I know the surround sound system works as I've had it hooked up to an older z270 mother board(old pc) and everything worked fine

Thanks for answering 1 of the questions.....answering the others would actually help fix the problem though.

Otherwise, I got nothing to help you. Help me help you.

what is the physical connection between computer and 5.1 sound system?
if its digital output or spdif then you need to make that your default audio output device.
if its multiple audio cables then you need tomake speakers the default and tell it how many.
how you go about this varies whether you are using windows default drivers or the realtek enhanced driver.
