it is working all the while, after vista crash i couldn't start the system anymore, D-LED stop at CPU init.  I am using water cooling, temp never >38C.  Clear CMOS also won't help.  ohh no, only 3 weeks i7-965.  I did not overclock base clock, only increase the CPU ratio.  Voltage setting all auto.

It's a long shot, but try pulling all of the ram and put one stick of DRAM in and see if it boots.  Try different sticks.  If it doesn't get any farther, it could be a dead motherboard.  I think dead RAM is is more likely than a dead CPU, but you didn't say how fast you were running the 965.

You could contact MSI Technical support to see about getting an RMA or contact whoever you bought it from to see about a replacement.  I haven't seem much in the way of MSI specific i7 troubleshooting anywhere.

My Platinum X58 has a very high "Auto" CPU voltage.  I have no idea what it would go to with a high speed since I haven't left it on Auto once I noticed that Auto was high.  If your's was high as well, I have no idea what the MB would push the CPU too if you OC to 4.0 or more.

I set the CPU ratio to 37, others at default value.  It boots after the setting, and at Vista loading, it freezes and after that not able to pass CPU init anymore.  I have even removed the cmos battery.

Last stable setting is ratio at 30, 4ghz.  I am just too ambitious to jump to 37, and now it is not working T_T;

I have tried the CPU in other mainboard and it is working.  I think i need to bring the cpu+mainboard+ram to the shop and let them try.

Wow, 133x37 is 4.92.  On Auto, that's not surprising it didn't boot, but pretty amazing it worked fine at 133x30!

Dumb question, did you let the MB cycle the three times...or does it restart at all?  Also, did you check out the ways to recover from an OC failure in the manual including the CMOS reset button?

Removing cmos battery is the ultimate solution to reset bios, no other method can do better than this.  I removed all power cords and the cmos battery over night, and still can't boot.  The board + CPU + RAM are sent to the shop to check, board has damaged and sent for RMA.  First time happen to me that when overclock too much the CPU did not die but the mainboard...
